Increasing responsiveness of PC post-startup

Okay, so by reducing startup objects, windows can boot pretty quick, however immediately after seeing the desktop, whenever I try to do something like open a folder or open chrome, there is a slight delay as tray icons and desktop icons start appearing.

So how do I minimise this delay so that as soon as I see the desktop, I click on chrome and it immediately launches like how it does 20 seconds after startup?

With many programs that run in the tray, instead of using a program setting to "start when Windows starts," you can use my DelayedCuts freeware from this page: Miles Ahead Software


To add programs for delayed start, drop shortcut(s) on the Listview. The delay range is 10 to 600 seconds(10 seconds to 10 minutes) from the time DelayedLoad(the loading program) starts. When the Listview has keyboard focus, pressing F1 brings up usage info.

When you press Save in DelayedCuts it saves the shortcut locations and delays and puts a shortcut for DelayedLoad.exe in the current user's StartUp folder. See the included Readme.txt for more details. DelayedCuts insists only shortcuts be dropped because then all needed settings for the program can be included; command line arguments, working directory, start minimized/maximized/normal window etc..

One can also drag the DelayedLoad shortcut from the StartUp Folder to the desktop once the setup is stable. Double click it to manually launch a series of programs in sequence. The tray "Toast" Gui can be disabled. Again, see the Readme.txt and F1 info.
