Hello madmecca,

For today's SSDs, wear and tear on them are pretty much not a factor anymore with built-in TRIM support now.

You can treat a SSD just like a HDD except you would want to TRIM a SSD instead of defrag.

If you have enough free space on the SSD, then it would be best to leave the page file on the SSD for better performance.

Hope this helps, :)
Shawn

Just move all the users contacts, documents, downloads, music, pictures, saved games and searches onto the hdd. Put the pagefile back on the ssd. Then in power options set it to not turn off the hard drive or ssd and you'll be fine. Also, if you haven't installed 8.1, yet, don't move anything until it's installed first.

Why is there this mystery about the pagefile on the SSD? All system files including the pagefile belong on the SSD. If you have 4GB or more of RAM, reduce the pagefile size to 2GBs. It will most likely never be used anyhow.

Another popular tweak is to get rid of the hiberfile - because it only takes up space on the SSD if you are not using hibernation. The command is powercfg -h off

Shut defrag off if it is not already off. Move your user folders to the HDD as was suggested - in fact make new user folders on the HDD and right click on those. Then INCLUDE them into the appropriate libraries. Move your user data there but leave the default folders for Documents, Music, etc. on the SSD. The system and some program use those to store (very little) data. Then you have a clear seperatrion of your stuff and 'their' stuff.

Here is a little tutorial I made a long time ago that may help. It applies to Windows 8 as well.
