EaseusToDo backup gives me the following error. I use security tab to allow access to everyone and still get this error. Can I run the backup in the built in admin account? I have tried system backup and Disk and Partition backup and get the same error message. This is an hd in an enclosure with a sata connection.

Have you tried backing up from TODO boot media and see if that works?

Are you able to access that drive yourself , and write to it using windows explorer?

The way I read the message you have a problem with the drive to which you want to store the backup file. What could that be - can you write anything to that drive.

How much free space does the drive have and what is the formatting - Fat32 or NTFS or GPT.

746 GB free, NTFS format, win 8.1. Haven't tried boot media but will give that a try. Did a succesfull disk and partition backup to another internal drive and it was a success.

So that would suggest that something is wrong with the drive. Programs seem to work.

Forgot to say I can write to the disk. I was running malwarebytes full scan on the drive and pc rebooted. It was on screen saver so i do not know what happened exactly.

thank you for your input

It seems the enclosed drive was getting to hot 107 degrees farinheit. Copied files to another disk. Took it out of enclosure and installed to motherboard. Todo backup completed.

The 107F should not have been the problem. Keep an eye on your enclosure - there may be something wrong with that.

Ok...Guess I'll order another one. Maybe I had a bad connection...I had lost two little screws that held the cover on.

Thanks WHS for the link. I am also thinking that maybe the female sata port of my rosewill case might be at fault.

I just saw that the one I linked is sold out. I also own this one. Has always worked well. In fact all my 3 open caddies work well - that cannot be said about those enclosed ones. I threw some of them away. They are cheap but flimsy.

That is interesting. I believe some of these external drives deliberately pretend the sector sizes are larger so they can work with XP.

That shouldn't be a problem if it is just used for storage, but it could be that imaging programs don't like the look of it.
