I'll include a screenshot as an attachment to help those get a better view of the situation to see what I'm seeing.

Regardless if this is an actual problem or not that needs to be addressed, I had optimized my drives before the Windows 8 update and never had any issues. It was only until I noticed this over the last month that I was a little confused what was happening.

As I'm not that good with computers, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If that's a partition of about 100 MB that is probably a small partition Windows makes while installing and you do not need to be concerned about it. It should not even have a letter. Check in "Disk management" available with right click in lover left corner on desktop.

I did what you said and can't figure out which drive the said fragmented drive is according to the Disk Management, but there were two drives roughly 400MB and 350MB so this seems to closely resemble what you said.

You can take a closer look with some partitioning program like Easus Partition Master, they would tell you more about disks and partitions.

I have the same kind of entry, with a weird name and a high fragmentation. I don't see it anywhere but in the defrag program. It has been there for quite a while. My strategy is to ignore it and hope for the best. And make periodic backups.

In all of the 8.1 installs I have seen, they have this new unusual partition.

Does anyone know exactly what it is and why it is there, how necessary it is, and if it can be removed?

Recently lost my Windows 8 on my main PC, had to go back to Windows 7.
Not on mine, only physical disks (1 SSD and 2 HDDs) and their partitions and no fragmentation whatsoever. No auto defraging either. They all see pretty heavy traffic. Heavy use of defragmenting and testing can put quite a stress on drives.
