When I put my computer to sleep, it keeps waking up all on it's own. Why won't it stay asleep? Is this a problem with my computer or Windows8?

I have no idea. I have Time Warner cable and a router. I use it for my tablet and laptop as well as my computer but never at the same time. I seldom use the laptop or tablet and so it is not from them. My son thought it was my use on my table that made it wake up but it happens when I am not using anything. Our phone is the only other thing on Time Warner. I had the same set up with Vista and my computer stays asleep so it must be Windows 8.

Check in the device manager, network adapters, properties of the network interface card that you are using, look at the power management tab, box checked, allow this device to wake the computer...

OK I got this far and then got lost: Check in the device manager, network adapters, properties of the network interface card

I didn't see anything like this there. No power management tab.

Here is a screenshot of the properties for the NIC and the Wifi, both have power management tabs.

OK that worked for a few days but now it won't even go to sleep. Well, it goes to sleep but wakes up just a minute later. I repeated your directions but do I have to do this every time I restart the computer???

Keep waking from sleep

I have a similar problem. My PC comes out of sleep or hibernation around or just after midnight. My network adapters are not allowed to wake the computer and my Power Options Advanced settings has Sleep Allow wake timers set to Disable. Going to Control Panel > System and Security > Administrative Tools > Schedule tasks I get to the Task Scheduler. At the bottom of the page are found Active Tasks. There I find 'Maintenance Configurator' with Next Run time to be at 1:00 AM, and 'BackgroundConfigSurveyor' with Next Run time to be at 3:00 AM. I suspect these and perhaps more are the culprits. I cannot change the times as when I try to edit them I get back "Task Scheduler service is not available. Task Scheduler will attempt to reconnect to it.' which seems to mean even though I am the administrator I lack the authority to do so. Under Windows 7 SP1 with the same adapter and power settings Sleep and Hibernation work fine. Under Windows 8.1 I have to shut down the PC to stop it from waking up in the middle of the night. Any help is welcome!
