Solved Can't see all startup apps

hello, I am new new windows 8.1 I it is almost impossible to get used to. I lost 3 days just to customize it so I can use it.

to make the story short.
I can't disable startup applications because I can't find them in the startup list.

Yes I know they are not anymore in msconfig.exe but instead in taskmanager-> startup. But they are not there.

I tried with cccleaner but also I can't see all startup apps.

So where I can find all startup apps list and disable them?

Could it be a case of Startup folders missing in either "C:\Users\_username_\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup" or "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup"?

Cleaner should show them, if not in the startup programs list, look under scheduled tasks.

If you are referring to some huge glaring obnoxious program starting, it may be a virus, but usually there is evidence of it in the startup programs.

I tried all the above suggestions but I still could not find the start up app.
I did not found all registry folders in the tutorial (they don't exist) but I manually searched after .exe name but still no luck.
I am looking for my mother board asus softare: AI SUITE II.exe and EzUpdt.exe (update for asus software)

I see one thing, you should not run uTorrent at startup. Unless you can afford the BW - I have to use it sparingly cos Cox only allows 250 GB per month up AND down.

I think, the programs you installed that you do not want to open at Boot, you can change that in their preferences, for instance uTorrent, open it, and go to Preferences, and the choice to have it run at boot time is in the top segment.


Oh Yah, the software you mention AI Suite II and the other thing - THOSE become part of the OS practically - They are ASUS programs that run your Hardware, AI Suite II might be like the old Cool n Quiet software - There really is no control for it, you either have it installed and use it, or uninstall it and don't use it - There may be to options for it, it just runs.

Do the AI SUITE II.exe and EzUpdt.exe files show as running in the "Processes" tab in Task Manager?

Since you don't want to use them, is the program(s) listed in "Programs and Features" to uninstall?

AI Suite is a Utility for monitoring your Temperatures and Voltages and Speeds, and it allows you to manage settings for certain things.

It is a fairly large program, 300 MB, so I imaging it puts tendrils all through your system.

If you are merely a user and not a Tech, you really have no need for it, you can use Speccy from Piriform to monitor your temps.

Unless you have a specific use for AI Suite, you should remove it.

Also, and I just checked, the program is not compatible with Windows 8 so I don't know how you even got it in?

yes I can see them in task manager as running.
What I want is to disable update application EzUpdt.exe, the application doesn't have settings or anything like this and I don't see an uninstaller for it. With windows 7 I could see AI in msconfig.exe.
for some reason windows 8.1 doesn't show all app that actually are in startup

Go ahead and post a screenshot showing all programs in your Control Panel -> Programs and Features to see if we may be able to spot it listed as something else.

Check msconfig>General tab>Selective startup>check 'Load startup items' is check marked.

@XweAponX I use ASUS AI for fan control. I use a version that is compatible with windows 8.
@Brink I have only few software installed, ASUS AI is in the list but EZ update not.

I was not looking for a work around, I wanted to see all startup apps. It seems with wonderful Win 8 you can't.

This would an issue with the program and it's developer and not Windows 8 though.

Windows 8 will show you your startup apps just as previous versions of Windows as always done, but in this case, you got this running from a setting, service, or however by this program.

You might check to see if this was installed as a service that you could stop and disable.

In addition, you might check in Task Scheduler (taskschd.msc) to see if there may be a task for this set to run at startup/sign in that can be disabled.

you are right, asus AI related applications appear as services so I can't disable them from there.
different from win& but ok...

You got it to work? I tried installing the suite and then the apps separately, and none of them would go in. Hm, that is odd - But you installed it your self, it did not come with your computer?

If you kill (End Process) the EzUpdt.exe process in Task Manager, does it require UAC approval to do so?

If not, then you might see if creating a .bat file using the commnd below, and placing the .bat file in your Startup (shell:startup) folder. The command will kill this for you. Placing it in your Startup will have it killed automatically for you at startup/sign-in. This could be a good workaround for you.

I solved my issue with ezupdt.exe. I re installed asus suite without update application.
but it good to know where to find start up application if they are not listed in taskmanager-> startup.
