File History Not Backing Up Anything at All

What's up everyone? I think I got this in the right section, but I'm sure a mod will move it if not. I'm having an issue with the new File History (sure do miss the windows 7 backup) thing in 8.1. I've searched all over the interweb for the past 2 hours and haven't found anything helpful.

Basically when I tell File History to run it says it's updating for a minute or two, then says it's done, but it doesn't actually back up anything at all. I have it set to backup to my 750GB external drive (connected via esata) which is solely for backups. The only files that show up on it are the configuration files.

Here's the setup I'm working with:
HP DV7-4285dx laptop with > 2 week old fresh 8.1 install
SanDisk 256GB SSD (C: internal; for OSs and installed programs only)
Samsung 1TB HDD (D: internal; for data only)
Sandisk 750GB HDD (G: external over esata; for backup)

I'm suspecting the problem might have something to do with the fact that I have all of my documents, music, etc. folders redirected (changed the targets of all of the folders in my user directory to D:\Users\Matt\...) to my D: drive instead of them being on the C: drive.

I am a computer engineering student, so don't be afraid to be technical, all of this Windows 8.1 stuff is just a bit new to me.

Thanks in advance.

Once it has done it's initial run, file history only backs up files that have changed since the last run. If you don't have any edited or new files in your libraries then it won't do anything.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm pretty sure I have it setup properly, it says it's going to do libraries, desktop, contacts, and favorites. I didn't put in any exclusions in at all. It just won't make the initial backup at all. I poked around in the event log and noticed there are two errors for file history:

Untitled1.png Untitled2.png

This is the path that it's talking about. I've noticed that the error appears to be looking for ...\Config but there's nothing called that in that folder, instead it has ...\Config1 and ...\Config2

Untitled3.png

I'm guessing this is part of the problem I'm having.

Someone's got to have a better idea of what's going on here than me

I could be wrong on this but I think that file history looks at folders/files that are in your Library. You mentioned that you moved your documents, and other files. So if they are not in your library, they won't be backed up. As I said, I could be wrong, but you might want to take a look and see what is in your Library

All of the libraries point to the corresponding directories on the D drive, as well as all of the folders listed under "This PC". I also tried adding shortcuts to all of the folders in my D:\Users\Matt\ folder (where all of my documents actually are) to the C:\Users\Matt\ folder and it didn't make a difference with the backup.

As far as I can tell everything is setup the way it should be as far as the folders go, but File History just won't work for some reason.
