Windows 8 pro has stopped running smoothly. I don't know what did it 100% but i think it was some application that is supposed to update your drivers for you - yeah i know what a bad thing to do!Anyway now it seems the internet wont connect and when booting into the desktop everything takes ages to load and a lot of apps start not responding when you click on them.I booted into safe mode and reinstalled a lot of drivers and when i rebooted the internet worked again suggesting that it is drivers that are causing problems.I had done a checkdisk and a couple of drives reported minor problems - i think it was free space was wrong or something like that - i certainly never thought it was too bad cos i cant remember lolSfc found no errorsI had troubke with kaspersky 2014 so they recommended to uninstall comodo firewall. I tried to do this as best i could and install zonealarm insteadIm wondering if there is a sata driver that is problematic as im guessing things don't seem to be loading properly???Has anyone got any ideas as i desperately want to rescue my system as ive got a 3tb hd and an ssd filled up with apps and games etc and REALLY dont wanna reinstall everything.I was wondering if there was a way of deleting all drivers and recopy and reinstall them all to see if this solved the problems???I do have a macrium reflect backup from over 6 months ago but I've installed and reorganised the system a lot since then so i wondered if i could copy a backed up windows folder where it keeps all installed drivers and then reinstall them from there again???Any ideas are really appreciatedThank you so much,SteveMy system setup is as follows:Windows 8 pro with media centre addonAmd piledriver 6core 3.3ghz cpuAsus sabretooth 990fx (rev 1) moboMsi Amd radeon 7870 2gb twin frozr16gb corsair vengeance 1600mhz ramC: 128gb ssd - samsung 840 pro (boot and apps)D: 3tb hd - seagate barracuda (games and media)B: 3tb hd - seagate barracuda (backup)E: Bluray driveF: External dvd driveMacrium reflect pro backup software

You have too many issues to address at one time IMHO and since your backup is so old, you might want to consider this method. The losses are minimal but make sure you read the tutorial thoroughly:

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/26095-repair-install-windows-8-a.html
How to Do a Repair Install of Windows 8 without Losing Anything

Use (the above) at your own risk as a last resort. You always do have that 6 month old backup as an alternative. Good luck.

Thanks for the advice. Do you think it sounds like a driver problem and what do you think the problems actually are? (You say there sounds like several problems)

Could you divide the problems and explain it one-by-one? The original post is way too hard to read.

Sorry i typed it on iphone and it didnt include the line breaks i put in (wierd).

Basically my computer wont load properly because the apps seem t take ages to load and explorer seems to not respond, even ending explorer and restarting it leaves it not responding anymore. System seems slightly better since trying to reinstall older drivers but not sure what the problem is.

i know i had problems updating itunes
i was told to uninstall comodo firewall but i looked today and it doesnt seem fully gone
I updated drivers using an app and that seems to have been responsible for a lot of the system not working properly

I don't think that's a driver issue. Try running repair install as my2cents suggested.

Hi and thanks for your replies. Its useful to know about the repair install feature however sadly it would only give me the choice to keep my files but not all my apps :(

so i restored my backup which turned out to be only 3 months old and i havent used my computer for about a month anyway.

Just so you know. I did roll back to win 8 pro without the media center on. Although it didnt work when using my usb stick to reinstall i later used a dvd with win 8 pro on and it worked! :)
my sstem is running a lot more smoothly now and i wanted to thank you all for your help and taking the time to answer. I wouldnt like to say everything is perfect yet in case i just havent come across any remaining problems but so ar so good.

one thing i have noticed mind you is when j am trying to copy a few hundred gig of data from a usb hdd to one of my internal hdds. It seems to start off ok but i came back to it and the transfer rate was on 0kbs!!! For ages! And then i tried to cancel the transfer and it stopped responding and i couldnt end the cooy task. I noticed that, with all transfers from all drives (internal too), the transfer rate is disgraceful! Typically about 1 or 2 mbs and then itll go to 0 for a while (seemingly while it thinks about it for quite a while).

does anyone know why this is/whats caused it /how to fix it???

For copying very large files try use file copy utilities such as Teracopy.

thanks. ive tried teracopy and it's not any faster.

incidentaly. i've noticed (and remembered that it has happened a few times actually). that now when im loading into the desktop at times (presumably after problems copying where explorer transfer dialogues and explorer windows stops responding and i've had to try and restart (but then it doesn't so i have to reset)) loading up is slow and the cursor is jittery, desktop icons take a long time to appear, etc - i could probably leave it 30 mins before it's fully loaded!

im guessing this is due to transfer problems mentioned above and something has perhaps corrupted on my system drive leading me to have to run diskchecks to rectify.
