Hello Friends,

Recently I bought a new Asus Netbook, it has free DOS OS, I have installed windows 8, there were 3 partioned and I selected one of the drive. The problem is my C Drive (Boot Drive) is 40GB, D Drive is 13 GB, remaining all spaces are allocated to E Drive which has DOS OS. In Disk management my E drive is showing Active System, Primary Partion. I wanted to resize my D and E Drive. I tried to delete my E Drive but getting error message like windows unable to delete E Drive. Is there any way to delete this drive.. I want to join my D and E after that I want to re partion 90 GB's 3 additional partition. Could you please help me out.. ?

I was assuming you would be following the recommended tutorial from within Windows 8 and I can't make the steps any more clear than that tutorial. However, if the tutorial doesn't make sense to you, then please do not try to use it.

I thought Windows 8 was installed, running fine, and you were able to boot into Windows 8? Are you willing to try a clean install of Windows 8 at this point?

http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/2299-clean-install-windows-8-a.html

Yes, Windows 8 was there..
I trouble shooted with my windows 8 USB Bootable..
I gone Advanced trouble shooting and selected CMD prompt
again I went through diskpart function and my E dirve mark it as active
after that I rebooted my netbook and its working fine
now I entered diskmanagement and my E drive is showing Healthy Primary Partion and able to delete or format
My disk management windows like this
C 39,06 GB NTFS System, Boot, Page file, Crash Dump, Primary Partion,
D 245, 52 GB NTFS Healthy Primary Partition
E 13,50 GB NTFS Health Primary Partion

I want to merge D and E and re arrange the size.. how it is possible..?

A scrrenshot of Disk Management would be great before attempting to answer that question. I still don't understand how marking an MS-DOS partition as inactive prevented you from booting into windows 8?

Could you please add me, so that we can fix this issue with cht
thanks in advance..

Hi cleopatra,

Let's keep it in this forum. You are doing just fine so far; however, if you read my last response, I have some questions that need to be answered before I can make any further determinations. Another reason why I want to keep it here is because I may not offer the best solution for you and since one of our partition experts (Theog) is lurking about, he may be able to answer what I cannot or even propose a better solution than I. Again, you are doing just fine so please provide the screenshot and let's see where we can go from there...

Hmm... Your windows 8 partition is on C, your MS-DOS partition is on E, and the MS-DOS partition is somehow controlling the boot. Is that all correct so far? And your ultimate goal is to megre the D and E partitions. Is that also correct? If so, I don't see how (or know how) to easily do that without moving things around and that could be difficult. Now, if the partitions were concurrent, it would be a piece of cake but I still don't understand the MS-DOS boot control. At this point, I would wait for Theog to chime in but my recommendation is to do a clean install of Windows 8 and delete all existing partitions in the process. Also, if you have anything of importance, it would be wise to transfer those files and images to an external source for recovery at a later point.

Thanks for your quick response on this..
Actually I bought this Asus Netbook only on Saturday.. It has free DOS Operating system
I loaded windows 8, there were some booting issue via USB Pendrive.. finally I disable 1 st bootable divice USEB and selected USB drive from boot menu pressing F9 and I loaded windows 8..
Already there were 3 partion.. The partion size little bit strange, thats why I tried to re arrange the size..
When I inactive the E drive which had DOS got booting issue, which was mentioned above.. again marked it as active and able to format or delete.. now I want to combine D and E and re arrange the size (As you said right) :)

OK, thanks for that update. You are doing great with your responses; however, it does look like your boot drive is C and I still can't make any correlation between E marked as inactive and no subsequent boot. Moreover, because you target partitions are not concurrent for merging, I am still stuck at this point. However, since you just bought the laptop recently, and you have a Win 8 installation disk or usb drive, why not just go for the clean install?

Actually, I have slim knowledge in OS Installation :(
thats why I selected the partion for loading win 8
Should I load win 8 again?

FYI - now I deleted my 13 GB Drive and its merged in to C Drive (clicking Extend option on C Drive)
I applied the same methodology in my 245 GB drive and I tried to extend in my C Drive
But Extend option is not showing :( something strange is going on?

The OS must be at the beginning of a partition to merge with another. That is why merging C and E worked. However, you cannot merge C with D without some heavy-duty partition magic. Now, there are some 3rd party utilities out there that could possibly do that for you; however, by the time you download and install them, you could have been done a clean install. That's a no-go on the D and C merge as it stands right now.
