sfc /VERIFYNOW: 28 MB of log

Hi everybody,

I've executed sfc /VERIFYNOW on my Windows 8 64-bit installation because Explorer.exe used to crash soon (now it doesn't crashes anymore, but I wanted to be sure...) and I found a 28 MB (I give you the dimensions just to tell you how many libraries are corrupted on my system) of log when the procedure had finished.
Now I'd like to repair these libraries, I heard about sfc /SCANNOW, but I'm not sure if it is a good idea to execute it. sfc /VERIFYNOW had occupied 700 MB of space in my little 83,3GB SSD and I'm not able to delete the files it had created. Is it a good idea to execute it or not?

I've got another problem: when I perform a disk cleanup (with the Windows 8 tool), it seems to not delete anything! It tells me that it can delete 4/5 GB of things and, after the procedure, I'm not able to notice any changement in the disk free space (even if I reboot my PC), but if I execute the cleanup again (after I rebooted), it says that it can make 73,3 KB of free space...

I'm a bit confused :confused::confused:

What can I do?

Thanks a lot and sorry for my bad English.

sfc /scannow is safe to run.

I suggest you run it & then run Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth in administrator command prompt.
Then reboot & run sfc again.
The unfixable problems sfc finds should get fixed by DISM.

Thanks a lot! I'm executing sfc /SCANNOW right now. I hope it works without problems...

What does DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth do? I've never heard this command...
I don't have to reboot after I've executed the first sfc /SCANNOW, have I?
Thanks!

No reboot after sfc.
Just after DISM.

DISM fixes things sfc cannot.

It fixes the store where sfc is supposed to get stuff to fix stuff.

SFC is at 86% of scanning now... it is verifying which files it has to repair. After that I'll run DISM.
Is it a good idea if I run Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth before? To check if sfc worked properly or I have to run restorehealth after sfc?

Another thing: how much time will DISM require?

Thanks a lot!

It is better to run sfc first & let it fix what it can.
Then run dism to fix sfc if it couldn't fix everything.
Then reboot because new stuff gets added to the store.
(Like a windows update that requires a reboot)

DISM can take 15 minutes to an Hour to run depending on how much corruption it finds.

sfc /SCANNOW is blocked at this time:
Ashampoo® Snap 6 — Ashampoo® Web
the screenshot is in Italian, but it is blocked at 100% of verification competed...
and Windows modules installer Worker is requiring more and more RAM we arrived to 181MB, but it requires 160MB now.
It's 7/8 minutes that the situation is this...

Can you help me?

Thanks!

I'm going to run DISM. If it doesn't work, when I'll finish the free space on my disk I'll refresh Windows 8.

EDIT: I have something else to do now and I don't have time to run it. Can I shutdown?

It won't hurt to let it run.
You don't need to watch it.
