What's the best prog for tweaking settings in win 8 to improve performance?

I am particularly interested in improving my internet settings.

I believe that TCPoptimizer is not win 8 friendly, or is that wrong?

I would prefer a prog that does it automatically.

Hello dogman,

The latest version of TCP Opimizer still works on Windows 8 but I have never found it to be useful. Most browser settings are adequate at default. No need to tweak. With that said, if you are trying to improve your internet speed on a known slow connection (eg, dial-up, DSL, etc), you can tweak-away until the sun comes up and never realize any appreciable difference. Good luck.

Initially, I was getting the full 80/20 service for a week, but it seems to have slowed down now to around 65/14 and those speeds are consistent.

I am no more than around 180 metres from the cabinet.

Thanks for that; however that it too much of a difference for any TCP Optimizer setting to overcome IMHO. Are you using your ISPs Speed Test to benckmark on a (presumably) consistent basis? Just for comparison, I have 50/10 service and sometimes I get the full 50/10 via my wi-fi and sometimes I get less (as low as 37/10 in some cases). Now, I've always contributed that those variance are attributable to time of day congestion.

Some ISPs use DLM ( Dynamic Line Management) which automatically monitors the line connection for stability and adjusts the speed, you could check your profile and request a faster profile from your ISP.

I run many speed tests and all are similar results.

One theory is that when I first was connected for fibre, the cabinet was not fully utilised and over a short period of time, it filled up with more connections thus slowing me down. :(

I suppose I can't complain really, as I am still in the top 5% for speed in the UK according to the speed testing sites.

OH, a cabinet? So you are sharing bandwidth with others? I didn't make that connection (no pun intended). Anyway, all my previous responses were based on a non cabinet arrangement so you may have hit the nail on the head with your latest evaluation.

Fibre in the Uk is currently from the cabinet in the street.
Fibre all the way to the home is coming very soon, that will increase the speed.
