I currently have 2 system drives, I only want 1

Hello All,

So I was just about to create a full system image of one of my HDD's, and I noticed that I have 2 different "system" drives.

2 system drives.PNG

My main system drive is the C: Drive, which is the 111.79gig HDD. Im not really sure why the 1TB drive is listed as a system drive, as well as being drive 0. Is there any easy way to fix this so everything to do with the system is back on the 111.79gig C: drive where it belongs? Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have a dual boot system?

Do you have external drives connected?

If you do have external drives connected, disconnect them then run disk management again to see the drives.

Can you verify that C: is your windows drive?

Your windows drive should have the Windows symbol next to the drive letter..

It is very important to have your drives labeled to avoid confusion when drive letters are changed by mistake or positioning.

Do you have a dual boot system? No

Do you have external drives connected? No

If you do have external drives connected, disconnect them then run disk management again to see the drives I have disconnected the external drives I had connected, and ruining disk management again, it says that my C: is the (Boot, Page file, crash dump, primary partition), this is also my Windows Drive, and the 1TB h: drive is my (System, Active, Primary Partition). WIndows is all installed on my C: Drive beucase it is a 120gig solid state, and is only used for the OS and OS programs

After Disconnecting my External drives:

Looks normal to me. Microsoft terminology is confusing, and there's a special KB article on it:
Definitions for system volume and boot volume

Note that the 1TB drive is active. This means it contains files required to boot. On the other hand, winload.exe is on the 111GB drive. Here's a screenshot I made when explaining this in my blog

The items highlighted in yellow (from left to right) are System and Boot respectively.

The terminology regarding the System and Boot volumes is confusing. Windows boots from the System volume but Windows itself resides on on the Boot volume. They can be the same volume. I don't know how this terminology came about but it dates back to the early days of NT.
