Almost 50% of RAM marked as "modified", frequent errors.

Hello, windows 8 community. I recently purchased a windows 8 PC, and it has worked well enough so far. however, as of late, I have encountered many error messages citing a shortage of memory, and after a short investigation, I determined that almost half of my RAM is shown as "Modified" in the task manager performance tab, stating that it must be saved to disk before it can be used. I captured the attached image to illustrate. I would like some assistance in remedying this problem, as it has brought my computer to it's knees, constantly causing programs to crash and files and pages to fail to load.

It appears you have a memory leak. This is indicated by the very high Committed value. Select the Details tab in Task Manager and add the Commit Size column. See which process is responsible. Checking memory usage of processes will not be very meaningful for this kind of problem.

Another question - has the paging file been disabled on this machine? Disabling the paging file disables the modified page writer, which in turn keeps Windows from being able to write modified pages to disk (and later discard them, if necessary). I would agree there's a potential leak with something continuing to increase it's commit, but I'm curious if the paging file has been disabled.
