Start up crud in Windows 8

Hey all, I upgraded my desktop to windows 8 when it was released. The problem that I have had to live with for months now is all the start up crud that used to be on my windows 7 install, aka the black dos looking screens. I have been searching everywhere to find a fix for this problem, as it makes the start up time unnecessarily slow.

It is frustrating when my netbook with HDD starts just as quickly as my desktop with sata 2 SSD.

Any suggestiongs would be appreciated!!

I don't really know how to describe them so I thought I would just add a picture of them. I know that windows 8 was supposed to do away with these screens, but they didn't go away when I upgraded.

I wonder if it just could be that upgrading from an older computer, however my dads Toshiba laptop (which is approximately 2 years older than my computer), got rid of these screens.

Thanks for your time!!

These are the BIOS screens which belong to the firmware of your motherboard. They're not OS related.
Newer boards may have a quicker firmware start...

I would rather see these screens than not.
Some BIOSes give you the option to turn them on or off, I always turn them on.
If you know what to look for, they can be very informative.

Ah I see, well I'm glad that I now know the name of the screens anyways! lol I've always wondered what they were called, but I guess it makes sense :)

I don't know what I should be looking for when my PC boots, I only really know how to use windows, but nothing really beyond that. The only reason I want to get rid of them is to see if booting is any faster. I really have no clue if that would make any difference of not though

Thanks for the replies :)

You're stating the machine starts from an SSD. When I mounted my SSD and enabled AHCI in the BIOS (neccessary drive mode for SSD's) the BIOS startup took longer than before with a spinning drive. It's because of additional drive functionality is loaded. Updating my BIOS version helped to downsize startuptime for a few seconds. But updating BIOS is not recommended if you're not sure what you're doing. There are maybe windows update-tools on your mainboard drivers CD. But don't expect too much accelerated startup time by updating the BIOS, you maybe won't even recognize it when it's done...but if you decide to do so, read, read, read before you do it.

my opinion is that both those screens are coming up because of improper setting in the bios ,first one looks like its looking for a hdd before it find the ssd ,not sure about the second one

Good for him that he didn't plug anything into the purple JMicron SATA Controlers, cause they are slower and not recommended for SSD's. There might be an option to disable them completely. The second one is probably the first one to appear when he starts the machine. You can see the BIOS Enter Option...
