Yes, an SSD drive and don't worry about defragging a hard drive ever again.

I hardly ever defrag a drive. It's just not beneficial these days from what I have seen. In theory, it would make a significant difference, but in actuality, I don't see the benefit

My response may bring out the critics but I see no need to use anything other than the Windows 8 built-in defrag. For me, its just one less thing that I have to keep updated and I have not experienced any problems with the results. However, if you have an SSD installed, you might want to make sure that you current 3rd party defrag program can work gracefully with the TRIM function of Windows 8; otherwise, I would "can it" in a heartbeat. Just my two cents... and now for the critics (see my signature). Good luck.

Puran Defrag is a part of Puran Utilities which is free. I shifted from Auslogics Defragger to Puran Defrag because it does a better job in my opinion and has a provision for boot-time defrag too.

You may like to try it out.

I use Auslogic pro but I have never compared it with the in built windows frag. Having just done an analysis on both the Auslogic says it is 11% and the windows 2%.
I seem to remember having this problem a few years ago with two different defrags. I did a defrag with Auslogics then did a defrag with windows then went back to Auslogics and it needed another defrag.
I think the problem lays in how the defrag is set up whether it is for optimum performance or normal not that I could see any difference.

Well I marked the question solved before I tried Puran and that was a mistake

I use a Lenovo C540 All In One x64 W8 and when I downloaded Puran for the first scan it hung up my system and I had to do a complete recovery.

It may work on other systems but I won't touch it again

No problems for years with Puran. After Puran, Perfectdisk always say - no need to defrag and zero defragmentation.

Ditto but only for a year. I wonder why it didn't work for enigma1944.

I am with you on this one .cant remember the last time i even use the Microsoft one , i tried Defraggler from the makers of Ccleaner Defraggler - Download, a few times ,but with any i tried in the past 3-4 years they all say the same thing "no need to defrag" today

i stay clear of utilities with 20 programs like Puran Utilities ,learned my lesson way back with win95 and 98 ,lol
