Usbport.sys causing mass CPU usage

Good day, I am experiencing technical difficulties regarding my desktop regarding this "usbport.sys" spiking issue.

this occured somewhat last week.

I am sure that this is usbport.sys because when I disabled USB2.0 Controller from the BIOS, the problem went away but most of my ports are USB2.0 so I am in need of these ports.

My specs are

i5-2500K
6Gb DDR3-1333 Memory
Z68 extreme4 BIOS version 2.20A
1.5TB Seagate Sata3 (for backup and installers)
500GB Seagate (for additional backup)
WD 320GB (for system)

I notice those spiking are really annoying and most of the time, when I'm playing music, most of the time I hear that my music is crappy lol.

i used dcplat.exe to measure my latency and the highest latency was 68000.

I used latencymon and usbport.sys gives me the highest ISR to 12000 after a few seconds.

now, I downgraded to windows 7 but still, the problem persisted but then again, when I disable my USB 2.0 controller, the problem went away.

oh. before I forgot, the problem persisted EVEN there were no devices connected to each USB2.0port.

I am pretty sure that the problem only appeared last week. because I always monitor my CPU usage, CPU clocks, and temperature and if I am not doing anything, i just watch over those clock speeds and temperature. and also, CPU usage but then again, I know that people here are more knowledgeable than I do when it comes to more advanced troubleshooting so I ask you if you can give me any suggestions regarding this matter.

I hope this will be fixed soon. thanks in advance.

So, to be clear, you have absolutely "nothing" (no keyboard, mouse, or wireless device) plugged into any USB port; yes?

yes. there are none. my USB keyboard and mouse were only connected to the USB3.0 ports.

Logically, if you have done a clean install of an OS and the problem still presents, it would be something other than some driver. Possibly the bios/controller/physical connections could be involved.

Check the condition of the ports and make sure there are no bent pins or any physical damage. If you can, check any case to motherboard USB connections to make sure they are correct.

The bios would also be an area of interest. Try setting it back to its defaults, and possibly updating or going to an earlier bios.

The controllers themselves may be involved. I believe that board has Intel USB 2.0 ports. The 3.0 ports are backward compatible to 2.0. Whether this might be making it appear only the 2.0 ports are involved, hard to say.

If you did not do a clean install, you might try that. If not, in Device Manager for the USB devices, the Root Hubs, on the properties dialog, there may be an Advanced tab where you can reset the hubs...

I just determined the problem:

this device.
Intel(R) 6 series /C200 Series Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller - 1C26

after I disabled this device, there are no spikes. but when I enabled it again, CPU starts to go between 40 and 80. and on idle, my cpu never goes down the minimum.

but still, disabling this device will cause all my USB2.0 to be non-functional.

On my ASUS Z68 board, I have two Intel controllers, a 1C2D and 1C26. In Device Manager, I cannot disable the 1C26 controller, but I can the other one. If I disable the other one, my front ports (midboard) no longer function, but the rear ones do...

If it turns out the configuration is the same on your system, you might unplug the midboard connectors and see if anything changes. Both of those controllers have the usbport.sys as one of their drivers. However, if I check the system information, that driver does not show up as currently running.

in my case, I can disable the 1C26 and 1C2D. Im not sure what that 1C2D does but im sure that the 1C26 handles all the usb 2.0 ports at the back and it's just not that great because almost all of my ports are USB2.0
