Hi there
I have to LAUGH at this -- uptime 8 Hours !!!!! Good for you.

I've got a SUSE LINUX server that's been running for over 12 Months now since last boot -- it's just stuck on a shelf out of the way and doesn't even have a keyboard or monitor connected -- If I ever want to logon to it I just logon from a laptop via VNC and control it that way.

There's actually no reason why Windows shouldn't run indefinitely either -- but you'll have to turn off automatic updates otherwise you might fine the machine will do an automatic re-boot.

Incidentally to save power you can turn the Monitor off when not using the machine -- especially if you are using it as a server.

I have a Virtual W2003 server running on a Windows 8 machine -- again I've disconnected console and keyboard.

Users can logon to the Virtual server without having to have an account on the host machine BTW (on VMware you can always set up a VM that can be accessed by a user who doesn't need to have an account on the HOST machine - or even having anyone logged on to the host at all).

I'm using my Linux box as a LAMP server -- Linux / Apache / MySQL / PHP -- but you can do exactly the same in Windows with WAMP - Windows / Apache / MySQL / PHP.

Here's a "Canned " one that works straight out of the box for people who want to try this -- have a go first as a Virtual machine so you can re-start if the MySQL or Php stuff gets hosed up.

Um, that's days. And comparing linux to windows 8 is apples to oranges...

Hi there.

There isn't any problem running Windows either for days / months at a time but as I said you have to disable automatic updating to stop automatic re-boots. You can run the Windows defender security updates manually without needing a reboot (usually).

Don't forget also you can switch off the monitor to save power --and you can of course use RDP to logon to the system from another computer if you need to.

This is my main desktop, just wondering how stable others desktops with win8 are doing....

Mine is very stable so far, though I shutdown every night. No BSODs or hangs, but Windows 8 seems to have problems with Windows Explorer when looking at hard drive data. Often take 10 seconds or so to display data in a folder. Much worse than Windows 7 was, even though it also had some problems in that area.

2 hours and 1 more hour untill it will shut down. The energyprices here in The Netherlands are just TOO high to afford it to keep my pc on 24/7. Haven't had any stability problem though! And with a SSD as C drive my pc is up and running within 15 seconds

As for my Windows Phone, it's been running without a reboot for more then 2 month now. And that is Windows 8 to ;)

@Jimbo ==> 12 months continuously? Then you have a very stable powergridd at home!!! No powercuts or hickups there. Great work man.
