Here's two pictures:

As you can see, nothing is being downloaded so how the heck is there 100% disk usage? Gah..why?

I'm currently doing a complete system virus scan, even though I know I don't need to because I'm fairly computer savvy so I'm not illiterate enough to get a virus.

I had the same problem for a while. Make sure your OS is completely updated. That helped me. Windows 8 typically runs at around 25% disk and cpu constantly for me though.

In that screenshot Steam looks to be doing some maintenance. It does that once in a while. But to make sure, shut Steam down and see if it calms down. I would launch it before I go to bed, and let it do its updating...

It was happening even when steam was closed. Even when steam is closed, the 100% disk problem happens often.

I have the exact same hard drive and the same problem. Just trying to open path of exiles or playing l4d2 loading a map my disk shows 100pcnt usage and take forever to load things. Even just idle it says its running at 30-80pcnt disk. Looking at how much is being used i see only 6mb/s at idle and nothign over 20mb/s loading games. I think this hard drive max is supposed to be 6gb/s

Anyone have other ideas?

I don't really know what to tell you, but the problem seems to have fixed itself.

I use ccleaner and a defragger quite often. I don't know what fixed it though. I didn't refresh or reinstall the OS, so that can't be it.
