For those who dual boot.

Hello,

I would like to know if any of you who dual boot see any performance difference between 2 OS. I dual boot on my laptop with Win 7 and Win 8 ,both 64 bits and using the latest version of VLC player on both of them i can see that the video playback is smoother on Win 7 than in Win 8 for the same video file. With Windows Media player it`s the same as well with Media player classic.Has anybody experienced the same? Do you have other issues between the 2 OS ?

Booting is faster with Win8 -- but that is by design, as booting into Win7 requires a reboot, which takes time.

Overall performance seems zippier, but I haven't done any actual benchmarks, sorry.

Absolutely no difference in video play back but I use WMC.

The real issue is Windows 8 is not dual boot friendly, don't believe me, try removing Windows 8 from the dual boot and see what happens.

Running both systems from SSDs, I did not really notice any performance difference. In measurements, there might be some, but in real life, it's a wash.

I dual booted Windows 7 and pre-release versions of Windows 8 and had no problem deleting Windows 8 as I moved to newer releases and on to RTM.

Sounds like a driver issue for W8.
Check the graphics driver.

On my system, windows 8 and windows 7, x64, all drivers updated, with some programs:
Windows 8 performs better than windows 7.
Memory usage 30% vs 39% on windows 7.
Firefox rarely hangs on w8, occasionally on w7.

This isn't the norm I can assure you. Dual boot on the same drive then remove Windows 8, and see what happens.

Everyone else ends up with the boot files missing, this has already been complained about so many time's I've lost count and it's happened to me as well. The problem is fixable but it's hardly worth the effort.

I dual boot on an older Acer. 8 leaves 7 in the dust. I'm also very happy with IE 10. It's amazing how quick that is.

I've erased and loaded 8 four times without a problem whatsoever using Brink's tutes as Jim had stated

Agree with Jim, I think it may be due to having the System Reserved partition.
When the boot files are in the OS partition, and the OS partition is removed/formatted then the system has lost the boot files and must be restored into the Win7 OS partition.
If using the System Reserved partition, they are not removed.
