Hi everyone,

Everytime I boot my laptop a message appears straight away as soon as I log in everytime telling me not to disconnect my USB (image attached). This has started to become very annoying and was wondering if there was a way of stopping it.

I have tried disabling toast and tile notifications via group policy editor but still it appears.

Thanks a lot

This is just a guess, but you could try it.

If you go into the Device Manager and look at the properties of that drive there is a 'Policies' tab on device removal.
It probably is set for 'Quick Removal'.

If you change it to 'Better Performance' the notification might go away. That tells Windows you will use the 'Safely Remove Hardware' methodology.

Are you using Windows to go, if not search your computer in the charms bar for Windows to go ( it's in the files ) and select NO I think that should stop it

What do you use your USB for? Did you install Windows 8 with it?
My suggestion is that you shut it down, take it out, and boot it up again.
I have not tested it - I don't have the problem, but it is what I would do when in that situation.

Thanks for your help. Managed to sort it by doing what arachnaut suggested.

Just out of interest, does anyone know if this type of notification has a name type? eg Toast notifications

I believe that is called the Banner notification. It's roughly like the metro version of the popup dialog box, such as the Low Battery notification were it tells you to plug into another power source in Windows 7. In Windows 8, a banner appears on your screen regardless if on the Desktop or in an app that tells you your battery is low.
