History question

I understand that if Windows File History is enabled in Control panel, you automatically get your files backed up on the drive selected.
I had the unpleasant surprise to see that after I run history first time 3 weeks ago, after that my latest files were NOT backed up automatically as I have thought .
I have my setting on "Save copies of files : every hour (default)".

Do I miss something? Did I do something wrong?
After discovering this, I pressed "Run now" and new files were saved.

So question is:

Is this process (history) being run in the background automatically (as I thought) or do I have to run it manually?

It runs in the background automatically once you have set it up. However it does not backup your whole computer, only Contacts, Libraries, Favorites etc.

Under ''Advanced'' settings you can adjust how frequently it makes copies of your files and how long it keeps them for.
If I'm not mistaken I believe default is once an hour and keeps history forever.

Let me know if this helps.

I know , and I set it up under "advanced" exactly as you suggest.
However, ALL new files (mostly pictures downloaded during the last week) were NOT included in the history backup on my other drive.
After I clicked "run now" I can see the new pics backed up.
So question is, WHY, history did not automatically made copies of the new files added to my computer?
Isn't it suppose to happen this way?

As I mentioned, it only backs up Libraries, were the photo added to a library? If the files we're saved on Desktop, Favorites, Contacts or Libraries folders that's the only files it will back up. If it's some where else it won't back it up.

That's weird, it should be automatically backing up everything added into those libraries. Have you since tried adding new pictures to see what happens? Are you backing up on the same PC or an External as recommended?

On the same PC, second internal hard-drive.
I will try adding adding new files later today, just to see what happens.
For sure, everything added to the libraries during last 2-3 weeks, were NOT automatically added to history backup.
They are now, since I clicked on "run now" this morning.

Let us know how it goes if they automatically back up.

Seems to be ok.
A new document saved on the desktop is visible under history.
However, as stated in the first post, last 2 weeks documents were not automatically saved, and I am pretty sure I did not do any mistakes in setting this thing up.
So question is what happened and how reliable is it?

I'm not sure how come your first 2 weeks didn't back up and now it's backing up. As far as reliability goes I haven't had any issues with mine or heard about any other known issues. Your best bet is to keep an eye on it to make sure it's continuing to back up every time you add something new within your libraries.

I just checked now, a document saved yesterday does NOT show up in history.
I did NOT change anything since last week, so definitively history in my computer is messed up.
Also I noticed that I now see TWO copies of all documents, while last week I was seeing only ONE copy (according to my setup)
So what shall I do to have a reliable history backup?
Thank you

I'm not quite sure why this is happening with your back ups. Maybe another member can provide some insight. If all fails there are quite a few good Back Up softwares, one of my favourites being ACRONIS True Image, works flawless and recommended by many.
Google it and give it a shot!
