Managing C: and D: partitions

Hello,

Having just got Windows 8 64bit on a new system with completely clean hard drives I am determined to not let these go the same way my old ones did- files everywhere and in all the wrong places. My C: is a Samsung 256gb SSD whereas my D: is a Samsung 1tb HDD. I have very limited understanding of what each directory is for but I know the OS goes onto C: and D:is for data. So where should I be saving things like large (8gb+) games to and if I wanted to keep my :C directory uncluttered and only save more intensive games there while I leave the rest to go to D:- would this be possible?

Thanks,
Patolotr

So you want to put games on D:?
If your game doesn't write to registry, it might be possible.
If your game writes to registry, it might not work correctly if you reinstall windows.

I've always operated that way with two drives, and yes -- you have to reinstall a game if you install a new OS on the C: drive, but that's no big deal. Especially since saved games, preferences, etc, will most likely be preserved on the D: drive and there for you when you reinstall.

I would even think about installing a game on the regular HDD if there is no adequate free space remaining on the SSD. With a 256GB SSD, you'll provable be able to install like 6 or 7 full sized games anyways.
