Have windows 8 on a fairly new acer laptop. ( came loaded with 7) Downloaded a corrupt program that stopped half way through. Tried to cancel it when it hung up but nothing happened . I deleted the download. Is there in this OS Windows 8, a system restore like we had in previous Micro systems. If so how do i find it? I don't want to lose any files etc but if I could go back a day everything worked then. My biggest problem with 8 is finding stuff when I need it.

This is may not the right place but this old goat don't know where to go. I had posted on this a long time ago and got just what I wanted.
I'm trying to do a complete system restore, windows 8.1. Previously when I did a system restore I got a reply, the individual gave me a URL to click on for a complete restore. I clicked on that, voila, enabled me to do a complete system restore. I was sure I'd save that, but apparently not. I've entered complete system restore several times. They come up with all kinds of options that I'm not savvy enough to follow. I just wish I could get that one click to a url that would let me do the restore?? I have the disc's they sent me, they were not in sequence but worked around that. But just would really like to get back the person that sent click on this, without a bunch of F11's, create a restore point, etc. etc., just that one simple "click on this url", don't mean to be a pain, but I've searched and searched and can't get back to that. I'm sure I saved it to something but can't get back to it.

Every way to do a System Recovery (not System Restore) is described in the Troubleshooting & Maintenance Guide

These are your choices:

System Recovery options
You should attempt a System Recovery in the following order:
1. Through the hard disk drive, from the Windows 7 Start menu.
2. Through the hard disk drive, by pressing F11 on the keyboard during system startup.
3. Through recovery media that you create.
4. Through recovery discs purchased from HP Support. To purchase recovery discs, visit
Country-language selector | HP® Support.

There is no link I'm aware of that you can click on to do a recovery other that what is described in the above document which is located here:

This is unlikely, but if you previously made a recovery using System Image Backup, then you can restore using that. Just a random thought.

Entirely unnecessary to reinstall or recover Windows because of a botched download, though.

My biggest problem with 8 is finding stuff when I need it.

Luckily, there's Help & Support on the Start Menu, plus Google!
