how to stop irritating forced-delay of startup programs?

hi guys,

it's ironic that after upgrading from w7 x64 to w8 pro x64, my system boots slower than before (from start to finished loading all startup apps).

i used Start8 + remove lock screen to skip directly to desktop. While i do reach the desktop pretty damn fast, it pauses there for 5 seconds (in the meantime, i cannot do anything else, like launching apps), then it will start loading all my apps at once. i'm pretty sure it was idling during that 5s pause.

any idea how to remove this feature? i found a similar thread elsewhere, but the directory suggested was invalid.

Hi, i upgraded too and i didnt have that "delay" but the boot time and the overall responsiveness were worse than the 7.
I did a clean install and now everything is smooth, and.. little faster than on my 7.

I have start menu X that takes about 10 seconds after metro screen to how up on task bar. So if i go to my desktop its not there for a few seconds. The skip metro doesn't seem to work for me which I don't mind at all. Yet I face the same thing you do, a delay. It does start before my internet gets connected so im thinking overall all software starts slower in windows 8 or its displaying the desktop a bit to fast. If I go to the desktop right after metro pulls up I get the metro background for a second before desktop background displays. I just think win 8 is a few seconds slower getting things going but overall performance seems to be fine.

i totally agree with your statement - especially "it's displaying the desktop a bit too fast", when it has not started loading any programs or none of the desktop functions have started working (e.g. clicking start button, launching a file = unresponsive), till after it has warmed up.

Mine intermittently has startup performance issues. For example, I use start8, and sometimes it will go to the Metro Start screen for a couple of seconds at startup, then pop over to the desktop. Most of the time, it goes right to the desktop. Also, and more annoyingly, I have my touchpad driver set to not click if you tap the pad. But occasionally, the tap-click will be active for several seconds (sometimes up to 30) after the desktop boots up. That's really odd and very bad behavior. So far, I'm a bit leery of Windows 8 startup performance. If it keeps this up, it could be the impetus to install Windows 7.
