Fans still running after shutdown of windows 8

'm running into a really annoying issue after upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 8.
I first noticed it during the initial (clean) install; when the installer tried to reboot, my machine (an acer aspire 4755G) just hung after the initial shutdown. That is, after the screen turns off, the power lights and fans are still running, and the machine itself doesn't restart. (I let it sit for a good 15 minutes, and it still didn't change)
I managed to do a hard reset (power button for 5 seconds) and the install finished, but every shutdown/restart has been like that. Interestingly enough, hibernate works just fine.
I've looked at other solutions where it said to use the "bcdedit /set disabledynamictick yes" command, and that didn't work.
I also turned off the "Fast Boot" option in the power settings menu. That didn't work either.

So far, the only option is to do the hard shut down by holding down the power button, but that proves to be horribly inconvenient.
I've also updated all my drivers to the proprietary onces given by Acer, yet this problem still persists! It worked fine on Windows 7, so I'm not sure what went wrong here.

Any help is appreciated!

Try: sfc /scannow,to repair the contents of the Dllcache directory.

It might be the problem from the installation, something might have went wrong. I would recommend you to perform clean install and let it install on its own (i.e no interfere), If the above code doesn't work.

Hey SIL3NTKOD3R, I've tried what you suggested and Windows told me I have a 100% verified install. I'm going to try and a clean install and I'll have an update on what happens.

Do you have any other suggestions if the clean install doesn't work?

Try clean install, if that doesn't work im sure we can figure out a way to fix the issue. Let me know how it goes.

Alright, clean install finished, and my restart/shutdown problem is still there.

I find it weird, how I'm able to sleep/hibernate though.

I've got the same problem.

Disabledynamictick doesn't help.
Turning off fast boot doesn't help.
Redownloading and doing a fresh install of windows 8 doesn't help.

What I'm struggling with is any way of monitoring what's actually happening at shutdown.

Glad to know that I'm not the only one with this problem, and yeah I'm having trouble finding a way to find out what's actually going on as well.

JPR, just wondering what setup you have running Windows 8?

Hi docaholic, can you check your min/max power states while "plugged in" of your CPU in Advanced Power options. It's an out side chance but worth a try.

Hey, so I've uploaded my logs, not sure if there are any dump logs to speak of though...

Glad that you guys can take a look and help us (me and JPR) figure this out.

And brummyfan, on plugged in, my min is 5% of CPU speed, and max is 100% CPU speed.

Oh, and just a quick update...

turns out, i can do a fully hybrid shutdown now (weirdly enough...), its the full shutdowns (those involving restart and the like) that I'm still having issues with.

Hi docaholic,
Try uninstalling Panda cloud security and see what happens, you are covered by windows defender.

Hi docaholic,
I would uninstall Panda and do a refresh with this Tutorial ( Option two), I am sure that you have already burnt a DVD, if not go to your email( the receipt sent by the Store) and burn yourself a DVD. You will be asked to insert the disc when you do the refresh.

Could it be possible that there is something wrong with the windows 8 copy itself? It might be possible we cannot ignore that possibility.

Hmm no, I don't think so...I've installed this copy as a VM on another machine, and it runs fine.
I also got my copy direct from Microsoft DreamSpark (I'm still a student); I wonder if that makes any difference

ok, last option. Try reflashing your BIOS to a newest version. Then turn off the computer using your power switch, unplug the machine and wait until the power is drained from the motherboard, which will clear the cmos jumpers, then try turning it on again and shut it down.
