    ASUS USB-N13 wireless adpater

So I bought one for my Windows 8 laptop, installed the drivers and plug dongle in and nothing. I then uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled with the ASUS utility/driver and still nothing. No blinking lights on the dongle. Windows 8 doesn't see it except in Device manager.
Error indicates that windows cannot initialize the drivers.
Am I pretty much not going to be able to use this particular wifi adapter? Is ASUS going to ever provide some updated drivers for this adapter. They seem pretty uncommited to making new drivers as there hasn't been an update since 2010 on there website. So anybody here try this adapter and was there a solution?

Before you installed the driver, have you tried right clicking the driver and choosing to install the driver in compatibility mode? It's probably best to not use the Asus wireless connection software for this.

I choose the Windows 7 option when it comes up and install it that way.

I did try that and it gave me the win xp for some reason. Still didn't work. This is the 1st time I saw windows new BSOD though. Kinda funny. But I'll try again.

I don't know what happened but now it just pretty much BSOD's soon as I plug the adapter in.

I know the adapter is functioning correct as I used it on another machine with Win7. So I'm at a loss. I'm pretty sure it's just incompatible with Windows 8. This makes wish I was a software engineer So I could fix it myself.

it does work, but not without a little surgery on drivers.

    Delete c:\windows\system32\DRIVERS\rtwlanu.sys

Delete the matching folder for that driver at C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository

    Reboot. Insert adapter. Install driver.

You're welcome. (I'm just passing along from another smarter poster that helped me....)

Cool thanks I wish you came along sooner. I ended up swapping the braodcom chip for N model from another Dell laptop and I put the N13 on that one since it was running Win7 anyway. So I was able to get my Windows 8 wifi'd with a Dell N Wifi Chip.

I'm glad you found a way to get it working Metalmania because I would not ever recommend messing with system files just to get a driver working.

A simple and easy way to get the adapter to work is to insert the installation cd into the drive, but don't install the program. Then connect the adapter, go to device manager and tell it to install the driver. Then say you want to manually pick the destination, then go select the cd drive, and click the drivers folder. Then windows will install just the driver and it will work like a dream.

I've tried that, didn't work in this case. This is resolved as I just installed Win7 home on this laptop and I have Windows 8 Pro on my main Rig now. Thanks.
