Wifi connection name appended with number and increments

My laptop connects to my home wifi. On reboot, the name gets appended with a number that increments on successive connections (but only after boot cycles). I've read that Windows is creating new profiles and I've actually deleted some of these registry profiles. How can I prevent this from happening? The SSID and password are stored.

It gets worse. These new successive SSIDs are recognized as Public Networks by my Kaspersky software which then sends a warning about unsecured networks when I connect. I have to keep changing it back to trusted. I never remember how and have to keep looking up the instructions.

This doesn't happen ALL the time, but enough to be a problem and waste time. If anyone has any fix for this, I'd really appreciate it.

Also, is there an easy way to manage the network connections and delete the extras like I can do in Vista?

Sounds like Kaspersky or any third part Wireless Zero Config software is the issue.

This is a common problem across the internet for which I'm having trouble finding a solution. Kaspersky is only responding to what it sees, which is a new connection even though the old one still exists. That's why the connections are getting sequentially numbered by Windows. I'm just hoping there is a way to make a network SSID static instead of whatever triggers Windows to make a new connection.

Try updating the WiFi driver, see if that helps.

Now that I've edited the registry, I can't get the problem to repeat until I leave home with the laptop and connect elsewhere. I'll do that soon. In the meantime, I recall that the original 'NETWORK' and 'NETWORK 1' were in the registry, but did not show in the profiles to delete. I was only able to forget 'NETWORK 2' using Options 1 and 2. I couldn't remember the Option 3 command.

In the registry I was able to delete 'NETWORK' and 'NETWORK 1' and rename 'NETWORK 2'. What I saw in the registry perplexed me even more. Listed there were some other networks I've previously connected to. None of these networks are listed to forget in Option 1, 2, or 3. They are not there, but they are in the registry behaving the same as 'NETWORK' and 'NETWORK 1'.

It appears that they are not deletable unless the computer can currently see them. Am I going to end up with an infinite list of networks I've connected to even once including the duplicates of networks that Windows doesn't understand are the same network?

EDIT: I took the computer out and connected to another network, then brought it home. The problem didn't repeat this time so it appears the problem is somewhat intermittent. I'd still like to find out what I can do to stop it. Is there a way to make a network static (sticky)? Why do other networks saved in the registry not show up to be 'managed'?

In step three, is it possible to remove multiples using a wildcard for the number?
