Local Network flush timer?

Hi

So i have win8.1 PC via cable, and 2 win7 LAPTOPS and an ANDROID phone via wifi on my local network.

i dont have homegroup set up, and i set to connect with usernames and pws to folders shared with advanced sharing.

everything works fine, and each device sees each other, but..

after a period of time, 1-5 minutes, win8.1 stops sharing.
to be more precise, it doesnt stop sharing, it just flushes inactive device that was connected to it. :huh:

for instance, if i access shared folder on win8.1 from any other device on network, it is available.
if i stream a movie, and dont pause it, it will be available till the end.
but, if i pause the stream, or if i stop browsing through folders, it will become unavailable.

then i need to reconnect to my wifi from that device, and i can access it again.
and i can keep access as long as i dont stop sending any kind of request over network.

this started to happen after i updated to win 8.1.
i had no problems on win 8.

is there some kind of flush timer, that denies access to inactive device connected to my win 8.1 pc after certain period of time?

i looked in local group policy, but didnt see any timer that could be set.. i couldve missed it though.

i use my pc as some kind of media center for the network, its the only device that is always on.
so imagine how its irritating when i scroll through larger folder, looking which movie or song to play, and when i find it, it wont play it because that device lost access and i need to reconnect, which means finding that movie/song all over again. :shock:

i can bypass it by streaming anything, while im making my choice, but hey, im really not into tricking my pc, i want it to work as i want it, not other way around (#skynetneveragain )

Most likely your Gateway is dropping the Lease, not the computers. Some of them see a computer in idle mode, so that it shuts down the connection between the network and the computer.

wouldnt i lose the connection to the internet then as well for that device? cause im normally connected to the internet.
and from my win8.1 pc i can access shared folders on each device normaly, w/o that flush, no matter how idle i am

and i have configured static ip for all of devices in lan, since only 1 laptop is sometimes used on other networks, and android phone can set up ip for each network individualy

No, because your Gateway is not going into sleep mode, just idling the network connection, so that the Gateway is using less power in what is called "Green Mode or Economy mode".

It may depend on the state the other devices are in, or if it received a "Magic Packet" to tell it that a request was being sent to access the share. This is the one reason that a lot of us with multiple users in the homes have started to go with a NAS, because they are so cheap now days. You can also use an extra computer for say FreeNas or one of the other packages.

I use a Lenovo ix2-4 in Raid-0, so that I have 2TB of storage space. But I also use a Cloud based storage at Box.com, that I mirror local files to, so that I can access them from any where.

so i put some time aside to test it more

havent found the answer WHY this is happening
but am sure its windows 8.1 fault

since i gave full administrative rights to anyone for that shared folders, instead of just read rights, none of the end devices get dropped and lose conectivity

id very much like to know if anyone finds where to disable that 'flush timer' in windows
