Unable to go pass 40 Mbps on a 300 M internet

Greetings,

This is my first time seeking assistance, do let me know if more information is required. I own a 300M internet connection but is somehow unable to hit anywhere near 300 Mbps with my built in wireless. However, I am able to hit close to 300 Mbps when using an external Wifi adapter. This have been giving me lots of issues for the past few days. Would be great if someone could assist me with the issue :)

Wireless Adapter: Realtek 8821AE Wireless LAN 802.11ac PCI-E NIC
Operating System: Windows 8.1

As long as you have a router that is Wireless-ac compatible, have it set for multiple channels. You should be getting max rate. Who is your provider and what is the manufacturer and model # of the Gateway/router they gave you.

Unless the external Wireless adapter is also Realtek, you are using different drivers on the two adapters -- which can make all the difference in the world.

First place I would check is with Alienware -- to see if they have a newer Realtek wireless driver.

If they don't, find out the model number of the wireless adapter in the laptop and see what the Realtek site has for that.

Just for safety, I would set a Restore Point before making any changes to the drivers.

Mark Phelps they are comparing two different adapters. There is a setting issue with the PCI adapter, which could just be as simple as going into the adapter settings and fixing. If they have both enabled, it can cause issues.

I understand that -- but they didn't indicate that they are using BOTH at the same time.

The point I was making is that two adapters mean two different drivers -- and driver performance alone could account for the very different throughput rates.

with wireless you will never max, use Ethernet.
