Hi
I have couple of desktops and a laptop on windows 8 64 bit, one of the machine is also serving as a filer(I will port all my data to storage spaces). In my living room, I have WD Live player and a ps3 which can both play files over network ( either through some kind of upnp media server or direct access).

As I plan to not leave my desktop ON all the time and configure WOL on ethernet connected desktop. So far WOL is working with WOL programs on windows or from dd-wrt ported router, but some how I am not able to wake up machine using WD Live file browser or ps3 pings.

Please guide me if it is at all possible to WOL based on file access on a machine which sleeps/hibernate most of the time in day.

I have read this and applied settings
Power Management for Network Devices in Windows 7

which is for windows 7 but probably same method applies to windows 8

Thanks
