Ethernet Mbps Cap AND Wifi Adapter Latency Climbing

XFINITY Comcast Internet
XFINITY Modem
Windows 8.1
Ethernet : Intel 82579V Gigabit Network Connection
Wireless : NETGEAR Wireless Adapter

I've effectively ruled the problem to be ONLY on this computer.

Alright let's begin. I have 2 major problems.

1. Due to a recent lightning storm, I've just recently purchased a replacement XFINITY Modem(unfortunately -_-). The XFINITY Modem before this replacement always had my Ethernet wired connection at a solid 30 mb/s on Speedtest so I know my wired connection can reach those speeds. However, after this replacement modem my Ethernet wired connection is CONSTANTLY capped at 2-9 mb/s (It will never go above 10). This has been happening for a couple weeks now, and I've lost sleep trying to fix it. I've tried everything, literally, virtually, everything. I just don't know what the hell to do anymore. The fact that I even registered to post this thread and one on tomshardware shows I'm desperate enough. I just want to play video games guys :/

2. My Wifi. My wireless connection on the other hand passes the usual Speedtest 100%, 30 mb/s, every single time. The only problem is, and I'm not completely sure how it is triggered, after a couple hours of use on the wireless card my ping will begin to climb into the thousands, and it will stay there until I literally plop the card out, plop it back in. Fixed just like that until the next climb.

I swear, the amount of time I've spent on this matter is mindblowing, I've lost all hope. I refuse to spend money on anything unless it's a hardware issue, which I highly doubt. The NETGEAR card is a very expensive, and fairly new device. The Modem is brand new. My computer is in top shape in all other aspects, and my ethernet port/cord/what have you worked literally right before I hooked up the new modem. If anyone could even ASSIST me to the grand solution I'd be most grateful

Thanks.

Really do not know what Bill Gates has to do with anything.

If you had lightening strikes in your area, you need to tell Comcast to get off of their rears and check for any equipment that was fried by a direct or near lightening strike.

It's only this computer that is not working.
Does not matter. Call them and lie about the issue to make them get out and check their gear to your house.

If you want to make sure there are not issues. If any third party Internet Security software is installed, disable or remove it. You can try also if wireless, set the Gateway for the least congested channel, which is Channel 1 in the majority of areas.

The last would be to download Shaper Probe, so that you can see what each computer is getting for their Internet Speed.

You are going to have to do the troubleshooting on your own. Non of us have any way to log into your system and see what you see. Nor can you compare what one of us have for our ISP Internet speed or services. Same with other Comcast customers.

The only way to make sure things are up to par. Call Comcast and try to get in touch with someone that does not have their head shoved up their rear, to have a tech go out in the field and check their equipment, then go to your residence and make sure speeds are good. From there, they can look at all machines and determine what is the culprit, and suggest a fix.

Most techs are really cool about not charging for coming into the home to make sure that when you had the lightening strike, that it did not fry splitters, coax, or the new modem is the culprit.

The only other item, would be to go in and do a ipconfig /flushdns in a command window as administrator, along with doing the following to show a list of all Access Points that your wireless adapter is picking up and the channels they are on: netsh wlan show all

In the end if Ethernet works, but WiFi is the issue. You may just have a crappy WiFi adapter. The only way that you are going to learn about this stuff, is the same way that the rest of us have done. Double & Triple check each computer for both wired & wireless adapters by using Shaper Probe to get your real Internet speed. Make sure no third party Internet Security software is the issue. Make sure when you are doing all of this, no one is trying to downloads Torrents or P2P or streaming videos.

The only other resource I can give you is EZLAN.NET. Yes this stuff gets frustrating. But you also need to rule out that your gear is not the fault. Because Comcast is notorious of always blaming customers for their in house & employee problems. Usually if you get to fourth time asking about something on their forum. You get Blacklisted and locked out of there.

If you do this stuff enough times. You can do it in your sleep. It just takes time to go through the procedures on your own, to try and find what is causing the problem. I rarely ask for help, since I can usually find the issue online. If not. I call up my brother and ask if he has come across the same problem that I am or have. We both have been around this stuff for what seems forever (40 years at this point). That is because of the stuff my dad did in the Air Force and for Ma Bell.

Thought I tested everything up to the brim, but I guess I will try harder...

Thanks for your reply. I'll post here again if anything.

Edit::

I think I found something major. Within the adapter settings it says my connection is on 10 Mbps Full Duplex and that the the "Link partner is not capable of higher speeds"

Oh not a problem at all.

I can rule out the cable being the problem as it works fine on other computer, how would I go about changing an adapter if that's even possible? I once tried switching to the Realtek Internet adapters. I've reinstalled this adapter hundreds of times.

You cannot rule out anything. As for swapping out the adapter. You can just use a USB unit and then disable the internal one via Bios or in Windows. If it is a desktop and an onboard adapter, you would have to just put in an external in the PCIe or PCI slot. If you can attach an external antenna adapter slot back to allow you to place an antenna up high that may work.

I use the Intel 7260 adapters in both of our laptops. My son got the Netgear A6200 AC1200 Wifi adapter on the laptop my wife now has. He said that at school, it helped out on better range. Because of the school having Concrete block walls in all buildings. Along with that they have their wireless network set up to hop users to a A/P that is not as congested.

When I had signed up with Comcast for six months, until I could go back to ATT for just Internet. I had set the network up so that it was my own modem, then a wired Gateway, a Switch for 7 more devices and two Access points on the main floor. One for Wireless-b/g devices and the main one being a Engenius ECB350 for Wireless-n devices. I refused to lease with Comcast, since I knew that I was only go to be with them temporary, from the time we dropped U-Verse for TV & Internet, when we went with DirecTV for TV.

The key is to remember that channels matter. If you open up a cmd window and put in: netsh wlan show all It will let you see strength, A/P's around you, etc. You can also still get the older version of inSSIDer if metageek.net still carries it.

Care to explain to me how I would go about disabling the NETGEAR internal adapter and use Windows' instead? I've looked everywhere and can't figure it out.
