Hello everyone,
I am having an issue. I attempted installed zonealarm free a few days ago when I woke up I saw that it said the installation failed. Yet still I saw zonealarm listed as a new program that was installed. I also can unable to connect to the internet. I changed the settings of zonealarm from high to medium but still no internet, I uninstalled zonealarm and even used the clean.exe zonealarm tool no internet, I manually went ahead and removed as many zone alarm components as possible but still no internet.
I have done various elevated command prompts net sh etc. However, for the reset one it always says reset failed.
Ip4 and Ip6 in a not connected state and all wifi networks say limited as well as Ethernet connections.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers. Also I have no system restore points available. When the issue was first present my last restore point was Office 2016 preview which I had installed two hours or so before zonealarm. Zonealarm never had a restore point. Since trying to troubleshoot this issue all my restore points have been erased.
I am going insane.
Can you guys please help me to figure out how to fix this. Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for all your replies. Unfortunately, I have no system restore points available. When the issue first happened I had a restore point for MS Office 2016 preview which was installed just a few hours before zonealarm. Now I have no restore points available.

I agree popeye zonealarm is crap.

David Bailey setting up a new internet connection returned the error 651

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Use Revo Uninstaller to get rid of as much garbage, then use CCleaner. Both can be downloaded from Majorgeeks.com

Hello Ztrucker and broe23, thanks so much for your replies. This issue has me getting emotional now since I am behind on my work for my second job and to communicate with you all I have had to borrow my neighbour's laptop.

Ztrucker strangely, I do not see the adapter for the Intel wireless card. For clarification I cannot tell when last I have "booted" my VM and I have had a VM setup on the machine for months now without issue. Of course this is not to say that it could not be the issue.

Broe23, I use CCleaner every day. Revo uninstaller I will use now.

Here are my results:

Ztucker, thanks again for helping me out man.

I went into every single entry in device manager and expanded them. No yellow exclamation marks. Surprisingly, my wireless card also shows up.

System Restore to before you installed Zonealarm.

A lot of this third party crap is just that............crap!
Tell me about it. You can never successfully remove all of Norton, Wild Tangent, etc., unless you want to spend a week going through the various directories, and Registry settings to get rid of them.

I stopped dealing with full wipe on the third party stuff, other than use Revo & CCleaner to get rid of the main stuff. With how Microsoft has layered things, by making it so difficult in getting rid of all of the Metro crap.

Working on cleaning out all of the unnecessary garbage in Windows 8 & 10, is worse than working on one of today's vehicles, or a newer series Jet plane as guys at my wife's shop states, that do work on Corporate Jets.

You really do not need to use CCleaner every day. I use it and Revo, when I first installed 8.1 back on my Laptop, because of some POS changes that Ubuntu made to their Linux distro. After I got it tweaked, which took probably a total of one day (yes I have more time in the world than I should, because I am retired).

I then just use Clonezilla to save the whole disk to my NAS. If I make any major changes, then it could be almost 6 months or more, before I do another backup. I will make one before I load 10 on both laptops, then after I clean out the garbage and fix the other things with 10. I will make a new backup under a folder titled "windows_10", so I know when I do a NFS backup or restore. Which is Linux, 8 or 10.

I am wondering if the Blackberry or VMware could be the issue. What does it show if you go into Cmd and run "netsh wlan show all"?

Ztucker, thanks again for helping me out man.

I went into every single entry in device manager and expanded them. No yellow exclamation marks. Surprisingly, my wireless card also shows up.

Right click on and Uninstall all the entries under Network Adapter that are dimmed, meaning not connected. Reboot and see if that makes any difference.

Also try these from a Elevated Command Prompt:

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog
Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults: netsh int ip reset reset.log
Clear ARP Cache: netsh interface ip delete arpcache
Flush DNS cache: ipconfig /flushdns

Hello Ztucker, none of them were dimmed. However, I went ahead and uninstalled the Blackberry VPN and the VMware ones. I entered all of those commands waited three minutes and then shut down. Upon restart the problem of Limited Internet and no internet connectivity persists.

Do you have any other ideas?

None are dimmed?

I count 19 in the image you posted. By dimmed I mean the icon is fainter than the icon for a device that is connected.

As a test, disable Windows Firewall and your anti-virus, see if that has any effect.

You could also try running the following commands from a Elevated Command Prompt, up to 3 times if necessary if problems are found. If none found them no need to rerun.

Open a Elevated Command Prompt:
Press WIN + X to open Start context menu.
Select Command Prompt (Admin).

Run the following commands sequentially. Wait for each one to finish as it can take awhile.
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
SFC /scannow

Hello ztucker, I did not see the other devices because I had forgotten to select view hidden devices. I was able to delete some of the dimmed ones but some did not budge. I ran the commands you suggested, please see the results below.

I don't see the first one: Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup

Let me see if I can get an expert on "The source files could not be downloaded" problem to stop in and advise.
