Not connecting automatically, & which is a better mode?

Firstly on my router under my wireless settings it's currently on the 72 mbps mode. I have the option to change it to 150 mbps and wondering which mode is better?

Secondly, I recently changed on my router the wireless channel so that it didn't conflict with other people's routers in my neighborhood. It seems like since I started messing around with the router settings and such now every time I start my computer in the morning it's not connecting to the wireless automatically even though there is a checkmark in connect automatically. When I right click and troubleshoot/diagnose the connection I get the message saying, "Problem with wireless adapter or access point ... Fixed", yet every morning it's the same deal and it's only "fixed" temporarily until I shut the computer down for the night and turn it on the next morning. Once it is "fixed" for the day it's fine all day...even when I restart the computer it pops back on and is connected just fine.
I have my computer updated fully threw windows update but I also went a step further and went into device manager and right clicked the network adapter and searched for an updated driver which it downloaded and was able to install. Still though it didn't fix the problem at all. Every morning having to troubleshoot/diagnose the connection just to get online for the day.
I ended up uninstalling and deleting the newest driver installed and installing the original driver from my computer's manufacture page. Still needing help as I'm sure it's going to keep happening and still being a problem for me. This might be a slow troubleshoot however if I have to wait til the next morning to see if it's going to connect automatically on computer startup or not.

EDIT: Just now I went in the device properties and power management and turned off the computer allowing the device to go to sleep. I'm thinking this isn't the problem though because on the computers first boot of the day why would the network card be sleeping? Should it just be waking up on first boot?

You need to reset your router back to default settings.. it should be on the 150 setting by default, then go into the properties of your adapter, scroll down to ipv4, highlight by selecting and choose properties. In the advanced button, add the address of the router in the default gateway.

You should then auto connect to the network when you reboot or start up in the mornings.

By default mine is on 72 mbps and it says it's neighborhood friendly. I'm wondering though at this point if it's even the router or this computer. =\ Everyone else on the network auto connects just fine.

EDIT: Also I have no device wired into the router so how am I going to set it back up after doing a reset? I've rebooted it several times and did a power cycle.

Connect your computer via Ethernet to set back up the passphrase & admin password.

The Gateway should be set to 40mhz channel bandwidth & Wireless-n if no b/g devices on the network.

Network speed set to auto.

I don't know how to set to 40mhz. I'm on channel 6 though. I also don't know how to set to wireless-n...the only wireless mode I can choose is 54mbps, 72mbps, or 150mbps...It autos itself at 72mbps, but I can change that. I also don't know how to set the network speed to auto. I'm sure it must be on auto though because I've never messed with it. I'm using a NetGear WNR1000v3 and I can access advanced settings.

I will try to reset the router later tonight and reset my whole entire network up again but as I said earlier I'm starting to think it might be the computer not the network or router because only my computer is having a problem with automatically connecting on startup. My computer has a broadcom wireless card btw

Go to Netgear.com and download the manual. Basic Networking 101 stuff here.

I understand it's basic to you, I'm sorry that I am unable to change these settings...it's not so much that I don't know how...it's on the network setup page 192.168.1.1 there is no option to manually change those settings even in advanced mode. So unless your familiar with my specific router model maybe you aren't going to be able to assist me.

The router is probably not the problem. The adapter in the specific machine you are using may not be getting good signal strength because of its location. Did you look in the ipv4 properties to see if the Default Gateway is listed in the Advanced button? If it is not showing, click on the Add button and put in the 192.168.1.1 router address.

No it's not listed it's set to automatically detect. I'll fiddle with this tomorrow, thank you for the advice.

Ok I manually changed the DNS on the adapter settings and it's still not automatically connecting. When I first got this computer Jan. 20th I think it was perfectly fine auto connecting perfectly fine and then whatever happened now it's not doing it. Getting frustrated.
