"Windows just detected an existing homegroup" issue

Hello all, recently I tried to create a new homegroup. I hadn't done so before, and neither had computer on my network. However, every time I click 'Create a Homegroup', it gives me an error message saying "Windows just detected an existing homegroup. To join it, click OK and then open Homegroup in Control Panel." Clicking 'OK' redirects me to the Homegroup section of Control Panel, which claims that there is no homegroup detected on the network. There is a Homegroup option in File Explorer, between Onedrive and my user folder. It's dropdown menu is completely empty.

I've looked through other forums and tried deleting the contents of the PeerNetworking folder, as well as restarting HomegroupProvider and HomegroupListener. Is there anything I'm missing? Has anyone else had a similar issue?

Go through every computer and make sure that all have been set to "Leave Homegroup". You should never have to delete anything from the PeerNetworking folder. There is a "Microsoft Fixit" for Homegroup. Problem is that it does not always work as it should. So you end up having to dig into the registry.

Thanks for the info, broe23. I did look at the registry, can you point me at which key I should be looking at? I removed the HomegroupProvider/SecurityData key, and it seems to remove me from the imaginary homegroup, but then if I try to create another one I keep getting a message saying something like "Window's cannot create a homegroup at this time", but it keeps refilling the SecurityData key and PeerNetworking, so I assume it's getting some distance before something stops it.
