Slow LAN connection one way over Homegroup

I have my laptop and desktop connected on the Homegroup so each can access the other's hard disk. They both connect wirelessly.

Both PCs have Windows 8.1 with all updates etc.

My problem is that when I am on the desktop PC and connect to the laptop it works almost immediately and I can access the shared folders on the laptop.

BUT - if I am on the laptop and try to access the desktop PC it takes ages and gives the message "error code: 0x80070035 network path not found".

After a few minutes I try again and it all works. This happens every time.

How can I sort this?
