"err_connection_reset", Constantly have to reset winsock

Hi there,

For a couple of months now I have had connections issues at random times during the day. I get an "err_connection_reset" when trying to access websites. After a couple of minutes it goes away, but comes back every 15 minutes or so. I've tried firefox, chrome and explorer, it makes no difference.

I found that using the netsh winsock reset command then rebooting fixes it but not permanently.

I was wondering if I had some kind of malware constantly messing with it or if it could be a software/hardware/driver compatibility issue.
I ran scans with malwarebyte and avg(free) and found nothing but maybe there are some other diagnostic tools out there?

Thanks for any help!

PS: Running windows 8.1

Welcome to the forum!

Without more detailed information about your system it is hard to say. It could even be your router or ISP. Who do you get your internet from and have they changed anything?

My ISP is TPG (Australia) I don't think they've changed anything at least that what they're saying. Other devices on the same network work fine. I've tried a hard reset on the router too. If I call them again they're just going to tell me to restart my modem and check my firewall.

Not sure what to try next :) What other information could I give you about my system? Is there a tool that could give me a full network diagnostic or something?

Thanks

It would help to know computer make/model, router make/model, there is system specs on lower left corner that can be clicked on and filled out.

You can also try plugging directly into the modem, no router just to see if it makes s difference.

Alright I'm back, I filled up as much of my profile as I could.
My modem/routeur is a D-Link DSL-2642B and I'm connected via ethernet.

Still haven't got a clue what could be causing this, I didn't change hardware recently the only change that could possibly match is going from windows 7 to windows 8.1

Thanks
