Solved Network Printer, unable to reconnect

Hi all,

I am rarely using my HP OfficeJet 6300 which is connected (UTP) directly to my home network router. So most of the time it is turned off. When I turn on the printer everything seems to work fine, except for the fact that on my Windows 8.1 laptop, the printer status remains offline. I need to remove the printer from Devices and Printers (within the Control Panel) and Add Printer to reinstall the printer before I can use it. During this workaround procedure Windows has no trouble discovering, installing and connecting to the printer at all. And after this, I can use the printer without any troubles... until either the printer or the laptop has been offline again, than I will have to reinstall the printer again to get it connected. So the question is... why isn't Windows 8.1 able to reconnect to the printer the next time I turn it on? :sarc:

Any ideas?

P.S. Restarting the laptop after turning on the printer, does not help. Re-installing the printer seems to be the only way to reconnect it to windows 8.1

Thanks in advance,

Arjen

Welcome to the forum!

Have you tried assigning a specific address to the printer in the router LAN DHCP settings? You should be able to see the address in the printer settings then assign that same address in the DHCP table.

Thanks... that seems to have fixed my problem. Assigning a static IP address to the printer results in windows recognizing it when it comes up again.
