hi guys,

one of my computers has "DEPENDENCY" problems. Search the net and tried all the possibilities to fix this, but nothing seems to work.

However it is on Vista X64, but I hate to reinstall everything if a easy fix would exist.

I am sure someone has had the same problem, but how to fix this.

When I put the Vista DVD in, I do not get the option to repair, BUT I cannot load the files for a fresh install neither.

installation does not start.

There must be a better way then booting from the DVD and start from zero?

If installing Win 8 over Vista would be possible without having to reinstall everything else, I would do this, but that option is a nono.......

thanks

jeff

can you provide a little more detail please.

1. You said your computer has "DEPENDENCY" problems. What do you mean by this?
2. You said there's no option for repair. So, when you boot from the DVD. What do you see?
3. You said the "installation does not start". What happens when you boot your PC. What do you see?

You can upgrade Vista - Upgrade Install from Windows 7 or Vista to Windows 8 but upgrades are usually only as good as the system being upgraded and to be avoided where possible. Also, the upgrade path from Vista isn't as easy as it is from Windows 7.

hi Calico

well network or internet cannot start because of fault code 1068, meaning there is a service (or more then 1) that does not start.
When I go into the control panel, then network centre, I see network connection is disabled, but I cannot enable it.

No I did not boot from the DVD yet, just opened it while Vista was active, and hit setup, but this closes. The only option I get is install.

Sure one can upgrade from Vista, but has to reinstall everything.....

Help! Dependency service or group failed to start - Vista Forums

here is an example off the same problem. Did run Scannow, but nothing shows.

Looked for a service that was not started, but it must be something else.

Changed the internet cable with another good one (from another pc), but just the same result.

will power-off the modem and router, restart and see what happens.

Can you check the Windows System event log and identify the service(s) that is/are failing. If we can find the base service we can work back or you could simply try a repair by booting from the DVD...

According to that link just resetting winsock fixed the problem for many people. Have you tried resetting winsock or the TCP/IP stack?

This flush .bat file will do the same and then some.

Copy and paste these lines in Note pad.

@Echo on
pushd\windows\system32\drivers\etc
attrib -h -s -r hosts
echo 127.0.0.1 localhost>HOSTS
attrib +r +h +s hosts
popd
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
netsh winsock reset all
netsh int ip reset all
shutdown -r -t 1
del %0

Save as flush.bat to your desktop. Right click on the flush.bat file to run it as Administrator.

Your computer will reboot itself.

hi Calico,

That's a little worrying. If I disable a service that other services rely on, I get numerous dependency errors in the Windows System log. Would you mind saving the system log as an evtx file and then post it here. It might be a good idea to clear the log then reboot before posting. Also, can you open a command prompt and run

sc query > c:\svclist.txt

and also post svclist.txt.

Thanks for the file. Can you do the following please:

1. From a command prompt - cmd /K SC QC DHCP > c:\dhcp.txt - and post here
2. In Regedit go to - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\Dhcp
3. Export the DHCP key to a reg file and post here.

Having looked through your services, it would appear the following 'standard' services are not running:

BITS
DHCP (This is in a pending state)
Eventlog - COM+ Event System
EventSystem
FDResPub - Function Discovery Resource Publication
FontCache
IKEEXT - IPsec Keying Modules
iphlpsvc - IP Helper
MpsSvc - Windows Firewall
netprofm - Network List Service
NlaSvc - Network Location Awareness
PcaSvc - Program Compatibility Assistant Service
PolicyAgent - IPsec Policy Agent
ProtectedStorage
Schedule - Task Scheduler
SENS - System Event Notification Service
Spooler - Print Spooler
SSDPSRV - SSDP Discovery
upnphost - UPnP Device Host
W32Time - Windows Time
wcncsvc - Windows Connect Now
WdiSystemHost - Diagnostic System Host
WebClient
WinHttpAutoProxySvc - WinHTTP Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Service
WSearch - Windows Search
wuauserv - Windows Update

I guess the first thing to get working is the event system, maybe then we can get some logs. For now, try the following from a command line and report back:

sc start eventlog

Please also try to start the following and report:

sc start WinHttpAutoProxySvc
sc start NlaSvc
sc start netprofm

Can you also try setting a static IP address and associated information.
