Cannot set DNS server through windows

So I Woke up this morning to a broken internet connection. Upload was fine on Utorrents, but webpages could not be reached.

Tried to checked the IpV4 settings and got the error message "In order to configure TCP/IP, you must install and enable a network adapter card" Fixed that after a bit of Googling, but for some reason I cannot set my DNS in Windows afterwards. It reverts back to automatic right after I exit.

I ended up configuring it in the router, but was wondering what may be the underlying cause of this.

I did the reg add and it was confirmed successful, but the DNS still does not stick in the properties section, though my internet does seem to be a bit snappier afterwards.

I'm fine with having to configure it through the router, but was wondering if this could be cause by a virus ........ Scans have turned up nothing
