Solved Why so many ports, Akamai?
I understand the role Akamai Technologies plays as a content delivery network, but why do they need 15 of my ports when I only have one web page open?

Akamai is used by Microsoft, etc. as their file server. I would not start blocking those ports. Otherwise you are going to run into problems.

I have no intention of blocking them, I'm just curious why they need 15 different ports? Or is that a long explanation?

What are you using to view your ports? I don't see any Akamai entries using MyPorts or ShieldsUp.

That, or I use TCPView from Microsoft, download is
here if you want, slightly easier and you don't need an elevated command prompt.

I have TCPView, and I already used netstat with various switches and I am not seeing any ports used by Akamai Technologies on any of my W7 or W8 systems. Are you using Microsoft's or Akamai Technologies cloud service?

So, all I have open right now is Gmail and eightforums, and TCPView is "TIME_WAIT" on 25 or so ports. Then after awhile half or so go red and then disappear. Then 10 or fifteen new ones appear (highlighted green). My service goes through Sprint, so I figure it must be them using akamai. I'm just surprised by how many ports they're using, and they're all up in the 50,000 range.
So now, as I'm writing this, hey all just went away, and when I opened mail, they came back, so it must be Google.
