SMB Share with Dune Issues - Help Please

Hi All,

I have used a Dune player now for a few years, and have shares set up with a HP EX495 (WhsV1) and a Win 7 PC. Have had no problems in the past setting up shares from both PC and Server, as I usually just map the network drive and all is good.

I have recently replaced the ex495 with a windows 8.1 solution using drivepool. I can not seem to map the shared folders from the drivepool sitting on 8.1. All shared permissions look good on the windows side, and when I go into the Dune interface, I can see the new SERVER sitting in the WORKGROUP, unfortunately with an empty folder. I have tried mapping with the IP address of the SERVER, and with just using the name (which has worked before with the windows 7 PC), with no success to the folders on the server.

Any help much appreciated, I am stuck!

Have you enabled the shares to be available to "Everyone"?

Yes, I have advanced sharing set by default in 8.1, and have made sure permissions are set to everyone for read and write, the folders are still not discoverable. Any other ideas gratefully received, I am hoping I am missing something simple.

Firewall software on the computer would be the next culprit. As long as you allow the folder to be shared, then it should be working.

I have disabled the firewall in windows 8.1 with no result, appreciate the response again, wish I could work out what is stopping me from seeing the folders on the dune media player?

Most likely an issue with the media player.

Unfortunately, i do not think the problem lies with the Dune player, as it successfully connects with a windows 7 pc and a whsv1. The issue I believe lies in a windows 8.1 setting I am unfamiliar with, if anyone else has some other idea they will be gratefully received?

Windows 8 operates the same way as Windows 7. With the exception that they pulled the codecs and media player out of it. You have to use VLC if you want to playback dvd's on a computer running it. Sharing still works the same way as it did with XP.
