Hello,

I'm using Lenovo Z570 laptop. (Broadcom 802.11n Network Adapter)

Problem:- Can't switch on wifi. The on/off switch is grayed out. While troubleshooting, it says, " wireless capability is turned off".

Solutions Tried:- Re-installed drivers provided by lenovo's website.
Re-installed drivers by windows update.
Reset settings in Bios to default values.
Yes the physical switch is on and the indicator light is glowing.
Fn+ F5 just toggles on/off airplane mode.
Disabled the option so that power management doesn't switches off wifi to save battery.
Other numerous solutions on internet.

The wifi worked flawlessly in windows 7. I even used it as a hotspot (via cmd method).

Someone save me..... Life without wifi seems Dull. :'(

Try doing a full uninstall of the device and driver in Device manager. Then reboot and see if Windows 8 will find the device on its own. If it does, then you should be able to go into the desktop, open device manager and see the device listed as functioning.

Thanks A Lot for replying

Well after posting my problem here, i stumbled upon a solution at google. According to it, i un-installed the driver, typed the name of my adapter on google n downloaded a driver of some another laptop of lenovo. Then i checked for updates in windows update and viola, there was a driver update available for my network adapter under optional category.
Installed that update. Now everything is working like a charm.

I was this close to replacing windows 8.1 with 7. But this weird solution helped me.

Again Thanks for the quick reply
