Private Network Not Requiring Password to Log Onto It

Hello all,

First off, sorry if this question's been asked recently, but I went back through the last few pages but didn't see something similar. Using 8.1.

Just had to setup a new network. Switched it to private and wanting to require password requirements for log on. However, when I turned on my IPod to test it out, my IPod connected without me getting a password prompt.

I'm know I'm missing something, just not where. Checked both the PC settings screen, as well as the Network Screen under the Control Panel. Could someone guide me please? Thanks in advance.

When you created the share did you check to allow all other read access? This effectively means anyone can read what is on the share but can not write to it.

Eldon: By read only do you mean the file sharing options? If yes, I set them for the private network. If not, you'll have to give me more details.

Topgundcp: Yes, I reached that screen and adjusted the settings as you did. Tried again, my IPod still can access the network with a password.

You mean without a password.
Try to right click on shared Folder/Drive->Properties->Security to see if you have a user: Everyone listed, if so, remove this user from the list.

I think the message got lost in the meaning. If you are trying to connect to your Wireless Network, and when you connect to the SSID. Either the iPad remembers the password which was set, before turning off WiFi security. WPS is being used. Or Wireless Security was never enabled after you made the change (ie Save the settings).

You need to log back into the router and make sure that there is a proper Passphrase or key, and that security is set for: WPA(tkip)/WPA2(aes).

broe,

Wireless security was never enabled, as a new network was set up as I switched providers. Just rechecked, I thought I had already enabled the WPA2 when this network was set up. Just enabled it, if it doesn't work I will post more, thanks.

Go back and turn on Wifi security on the router. I cannot believe that you are still working on this after two days. I would have done a hard reset on the router, then gone back through the setup steps to put it back online, with WPA(tkip)/WPA2(aes) Security and a Passphrase or Hex key.

Five minutes tops is all it would take to do this.
