Hello. I have been using my Acer V5 aspire 571pg for almost a year and a half now, and just 3 days ago, it stopped being able to connect to the internet. On the bottom left, it shows the icon as if ita plugged in with an ethernet cable, even though it doesnt have a port for that, but it has a little x on it. There are no networks listed even though im using one with my cellphone right now. I have tried resetting it, disabling bluetooth since I read something about that with the qualcomm atheros ar5bwb222 and it working odly. I tried downloading the latest drivers from acer to my phone and transferinf them over since it wont connect at all. I used the setup program for the qualcomm thqt came with the driver update and have tried multiple times to uninstqll and reinstall. I tried clicking the updatw driver button and pointing it to the windows 8 driver software on my pc from acer, and it tells me that its not supported on this platform. The driver under device manager has niw moves to other devices as an unknown device. My network adapters page has an ethernet section by my realtek PCIe GBE damily controller and a bluetooth network connection, but no wifi one. I have looked into the bios, booted to safe mode, updated other drivers...

I am out of ideas and It is impereative thaf I get thia reconnected as my family is on vacation and we need it to cover bill payments for things back home...

What about doing a System Restore to before this started, 4 or more days ago?

Probably should have mentioned that i tried that twice, once to yesterday, and again to last week, both of which it had been working fine at.

Did you run "\WLAN_Atheros_v10.0.0.276_W8W81x64\Install_CD\setup.exe"?

I dont see that file. Inside the zip, there was an install cd folder that included a setup that i ran, but inside the zip, there were also a bt driver only folder, abd a wifi driver only zip folder. Inside the wifi zip, theres options for ndis6xWin7, 8, and winblue. I tried pointing the driver update tool to the windows 8 one, but says its not supported for this platform.

Thought I might add, whenever i run the setup under install_CD, and remove the drivers, the qualcomm atheros device shows back up in network adapters, but says its not running due to a problem. When i run the setup again to reinstall the drivers it is moved to other devices as an unknown device.

Update: I also tried going to where the driver files are stored, windows/system32/drivers and replacing the athw8x in there with the one that came with the ndis6xWin8 still to no avail.

Make sure all your networking (or bluetooth) services are turned on (ie., WWAN, WLAN, or whatever you're using) in the services module. Also double-check your BIOS to make sure that something isn't disabled there.

As far as the bios goes, It is using the UEFI thing, which I went into, but couldnt find anything relavent. I opened up the services list, and couldbt find anything wrong.

It does not work either. And since my warrenty is expired, this is going to be one hell of a fix...

Actually quite easy to replace. Mine didn't come with dual-band so I replaced it with what you have. I think was less than $20 on Ebay.

Have to be careful with the tiny antenna connectors, tweezers help.

So i dont have to draw a pentagram around it and sacrafice it? (As in buy a new one.) What would I be looking for on ebay, juat a wireless laptop card?

Probably should have figured it was the chip when I recovered my pc from a week ago and it still wasnt working when it had been at the recovery point.

No, it is a relatively painless process. Make sure it is a half-mini dual-band (if you use dual-band) with bluetooth. You may want to go with a different brand/model as I have read many people have drop out problems with this adapter no matter what they've tried.

I just looked on Ebay and these cards are going for about $12-20 brand new or pulled working. Mine is a pulled working and no problems. Again, you may want to go with Intel or Ralink instead. Read carefully as some will not work at all on certain computers. Acer is pretty generic friendly though.

You may want to verify the card is next to the RAM and easy to get to. Should be but better check first.

I opened my laptop up and found the Wi-Fi chip. The label on it says it's different than What the over device manager says.
Here is the label. http://i.imgur.com/UaoXuLV.jpg
As opposed to the ar5bwb222 that it says is in there. Will change drivers if I can, if That's not the solution, I will either Look into a new one, send it in to Acer If I can without warranty, or take it to a computer repair store.

Wow, that is freaky! That is a single channel with no bluetooth I believe. Glad you opened it up and looked. The basically cheated you if supposed to have come with dual-channel wifi. If you have bluetooth it must be on a separate card/chip.

UPDATE: Did a quick search and now I'm confused. Supposedly the same card but in your picture it doesn't look like that card has bkuetooth. It usually is a square silver piece at the top center of the card.
