Network disconnection issues

So, I have a HP TouchPavillion laptop that I got a few months ago, and it has been working great until now. My internet connection is being randomly disconnected for no reason, and whenever I download something, the download speed will suddenly drop until it reaches 0 bytes per second, even though I am connected to the internet. Whenever my computer disconnects me from the connection, trying to re-connect will cause the screen to freeze for a few seconds, and then I am not able to re-connect unless I reboot the computer. Anyone know the problem?
P.S. The security is "Unsecured" and the type is "802.11n" in case it helps.

Hi Pootis and welcome to the forum! The first thing I would try is uninstall the card in Device Manager, reboot and let it re-install. Are you using the latest drivers?

An unsecured connection over wifi is not good as others can jump on the connection and even hack into your computer.

Also can't rule out a router problem. Does it do the same thing at a different location?

I uninstalled and re-installed my card, and I am using the latest drivers. I don't have a router, because I don't need one. And no, it doesn't do this anywhere else, just the area I live at. Still, nothing worked.

So you are plugged into a modem or do you live near a hotspot? From what you said it sounds like a problem at the location, not with your computer.

I'm guessing it's the location, since I live near a hotspot, and I never get this problem with any other connection. I'm just wondering if there's anything I can do to help it, since it's my only option.

So, you're using a free unsecured wifi connection that you don't manage yourself? Not sure how you can expect any consistent connection...
