How can I remote into my Home PC from an outside network

without the likes of logmein?




If I enable remote login on my pc, what needs to be done in my router (if anything) so I can remote in from wherever I want? I am running Windows 8.1 pro X64 router is netgear R6300

Teamviewer is the best option out there.

If you dont want to use a 3rd party software like logmein or TeamViewer, the only way to do this would be to use RDP over VPN. You would need to setup a VPN on your home network that you can dial into from your client computer and then RDP to your host.

One other option is to port forward TCP port 3389 on your router, but going that route you introduce a host of other security concerns. I personally wouldn't recommend it as VPN or an SSL encrypted VNC is a much more secure method of access.

I use copssh on an alternate port and forward that port in my router to my PC https://www.itefix.no/i2/copssh Works great.

TeamViewer is free, dead simple to use and works great.

teamviewer is only free for personal use. pretty expensive otherwise.
