Firewall software on the computers would be the first thing to start looking at. Also make sure that folders are allowed to be Publicly shared.

On the Pro with Media:
Firewall's OK, both Private and Public.

File and Printer Sharing allowed both Public and Private.

HomeGroup allowed only in Private. I can't check the Public. IS THIS THE PROBLEM?

Homegroup has always been a problem. Since the day Microsoft came up with it. Turn it off and stick with conventional Network sharing.

First thing to check, Did you turn on Network Discovery and File and Printer sharing in the Advanced Sharing settings for the Private network?

I should also point out that the pathway to Pete's Documents is not a valid pathway.

You would typically get to the Users Documents folder by going to C:\Users\Username\Documents

I'd like to see the ipconfig/all from both machines. :)

I wholeheartedly endorse this comment. Homegroup has been the biggest networking-mess msoft has yet thrust upon us. The only saving grace was that they restricted it's availability in the lower grades of windows. In win7-Home etc. We were lucky for that, but I think they did that on purpose as the higher versions had help-desk support built into the price and man, did they need it.

Use WORKGROUP and also in the network discovery settings select "Enable file sharing for devices that use 40- or 56bit encryption."

Network and Sharing
Change Advanced settings
ALL Networks
