Hi All,
First off, everything is working OK once it is finally connected. I have two wifi inputs to my laptop. The internal Intel wifi-adapter is tethered to my cell phone at 2.4GHz. The other, an N600 TP-Link adapter is connected via the access point of my router which is locked to using the 5GHz band.
I have both adapters set to connect automatically, but the 5GHz one takes forever and comes back as "Limited," which is fine as win8.1 obviously considers no Internet connection as "limited."
Is there any way I can let win8.1 know that it doesn't need to keep looking for the Internet as there is none on that wifi adapter? Once it connects, I want it to stop looking for the Internetas the problem this seems to be causing is that during boot-up, the slow no-Internet 5GHz connection is causing the auto-connect to not auto-connect and I have to manually connect it every time.
I have tried setting the Metrics, but this is a base win8.1 and it doesn't have a the Group Policy Editor to see if there is anything there I can play with. I can't justify getting the win8.1-pro upgrade for 100-bucks to save me manually connecting every boot or play with the GP settings.
Thanks
