I am trying to send a remote assistance invitation by e-mail from one machine using 8.1 to another machine using 8.1 Window tells me I don't have a compatible e-mail program ... I am using Outlook 2013! I am paying a monthly fee for Outlook 2013 and I would like it to be fully compatible with Windows 8.1.

I know I can save the invitation to a file and attach it to e-mail. However I want to make this as easy as possible for a very elderly computer user. If she knew how to attach files and she would not need remote assistance.

Is the free Thunderbird compatible? :sarc:

It would just be easier if both parties are using Team Viewer. As for paying for Outlook. Why. You can get it for a one time price if you are using a laptop or desktop.

I don't think installing a complex third party program on two machines miles apart to be easier. Windows Remote Assistance should work with Outlook 2013. I don't use remote assistance often but it has worked with my prior versions of MS Office that I bought. Maybe it does not work for me now because I have a subscription now?

I just installed Mozilla Thunderbird and guess what, MS Remote Access considers it a compatible e-mail program. It is nice e-mail program but I prefer Outlook.

I don't know if this is a bug with Windows 8.1 or Outlook 2013 but both programs belong to Microsoft and they should fix it.

Where are you getting that Teamviewer is complex. It is easier then using RDP on machines when doing remote connections. If anything. Teamviewer is easier to use then RDP or VNC. Also a lot more secure then RDP.

Only way that RDP properly works is if both machines are running Pro or Enterprise versions of an OS and are on the same Domain. Never was meant to be used as a VPN type connection. Even Microsoft has realized that. That is why they have not committed to doing anything with it. Because of the type of programs such as Teamviewer and Logmein.

As for this so called bug you think that there is. RDP is the bug. Not the email program.

I guess complex is the wrong term. I just don't want to download and install a new program on my or anyone else's computer that is able to take over the entire machine without knowing much about that company. I guess it is a trust issue.

I am using Windows 8.1 PRO so Remote Access should at least recognize Outlook 2013 as an e-mail program. Like I said Remote Access has no program finding Thunderbird. I still think Microsoft should fix this or drop the PRO designation from my version of Windows.

Microsoft is not going to fix anything that is going to be going away in the near future.
