Solved Metro requires network bridge?

In 8.1 Pro, 64-bit:

In an effort to allow connectivity with a virtual machine using VMware Player, I deleted the Network Bridge. While this indeed enabled connectivity I now find that Metro apps (at least iHeart radio, Weather) requiring Internet connectivity no longer work. I have already run the diagnostics suggested to no avail.

So, is there a solution that allows Metro apps without the Network Bridge?

Thanks.

Unfortunately, that's the case. So now I have to choose between having any Metro app and a virtual machine. Hyper-V is too sluggish to be of value. I'll see if VirtualBox causes similar issues and add to this thread even though it is solved.

If you are going to run Windows 8.x.x inside VMWare or Virtual Box, and want to be able to connect to the network the computer is on. Yes, set the adapter to "Bridged Adapter". Otherwise it will not work.

It's the other way around: Linux guest, Win8.1 as host. Network bridge needed to be offed to get connectivity between the two. Somehow I'll figure out how to get everything I want inside the box!

fwiw, VirtualBox not only can use the VMware Player guest disk, it does not disable any Metro apps! I'm sold. But at price = 0, it was an easy sell.
